Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch with a group of friends. Food was outstanding, everything was cooked to perfection. In fact the best roast dinner we have had out at a restaurant. Open kitchen, so you can see the Chefs at work and to say...'thank you' personally at the end!! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Keep up the good work.. If ever we were in the area again, we would certainly returnMore

First visit to Rupert Brooke this year, always a favourite with us, but I can honestly say we will never return. Seated in the conservatory, next to a dog bowl! it was uncomfortably airless and extremely noisy with a waiter who seemed to be serving...the whole busy restaurant single handed- ly. The food was a real let down, it was a long time coming but was tasteless, lukewarm and in my case inedible. What a shame, a real disappointment!More

Contemporary furnishings give this pub a welcoming feel which wasn't matched by the staff or service. Mediocre meal for the price charged. Try other venues first, give this one a miss.More

Called in and had not booked. Staff were wonderful and nice and friendly, we had a dog and that was no problem in the slightest. Little bit of a mix up regarding where we wanted to sit and where we could sit to have a...meal but that was fine. The food was delightful and very nice. Yes, you pay that bit extra but it was well worth it. Would I return? Yes definitely, lovely staff, food and place, what more could you want.More

What a fabulous lunch! We popped in on spec without booking and were given a very warm welcome even though the restaurant was busy. The fish and chips (with curry sauce!) and flat iron steak were both absolutely delicious. Freshly cooked and bursting with flavour....Good coffee too. We will be back!More

We had lunch at the weekend recently. The service was faultless and the pub has a smart but, at the same time, cosy feel. It seemed like the perfect place and we had high hopes it would become our favourite pub. Unfortunately this was not...the case. Menu choice was limited and the flavours quite bland. We spent almost £50 per person for a starter and main course with soft drinks. If prices were more reasonable and they revamped the menu, this pub would be a great choice.More

Unplanned last minute Sunday lunch en route to the airport after a mini break in Cambridgeshire. The staff fitted us in and we all had the Sunday lunch - roast beef. I’m always reassured when asked how I like it. Rare was served pink but...cooked through. Not bloody for those who need to know that. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. Served with Yorkshire pudding and delicious veg. I think the carrots were cooked in honey and orange. The gravy was really nice too, and they had horseradish, a must for me. They needed the table back and gave us a nudge at the end of the meal but we can’t complain about that given we didn’t book. Best Sunday lunch in ages!More

Great Sunday lunch today. The menu seduced me into all three courses at a price (£32) which I feel was good value. My only small feedback was that there could have been more of the delicious fish cake starter. My partner’s cheese tart starter, also...excellent, could have been a bit bigger too. Really liked the dry January drinks options. Not that I’ve had much experience but the best alcohol free white wine I’ve had. The service was prompt and friendly. I look forwards to my next visit and certainly recommend this place for a Sunday lunch.More

Great decor, friendly knowledgeable staff. Top rate food. Recommend arancini with pulled beef, perfect pink flatiron steak smoked garlic butter. Fish of the day was crisp succulent Coley with a shrimp and samphire sauce, just beautiful. Service was attentive but not overly so. Harry was...just great as our waiter. Overall a fab dinner, another one of the Chest ut group that we will definitely visit again. We can even bring the dog next time!More

I probably shouldn't even be writing this, because who wants to blow about the best kept restaurant/bar secret in the Cambridge region? Top quality food, magical atmosphere, dog-friendly (with a Mutt Menu!) and top drawer staff (Harry and Emma in particular, take a bow). I...come back a lot because the food is great, the pricing is more than reasonable for a gastro pub, and I always feel welcome. And one can wander over the glorious Grantchester Meadows before or after eating here. If you want a really really great pub meal in Cambridge, this is the place.More

Booked a Wednesday evening for the fixed price meal with cocktails. Despite confirmation email assuring this, we were told the special deal was not available on arrival. In fact there were no lactose free desserts!! A number of other menu items were also unavailable. We felt very let down.More
