Very reasonable, home cooked, piping hot roast. The cauliflower cheese is to die for 👌 we had nut roast and pork belly @ £11.95 each. Great location for a walk along the cycle path after too.

We enjoyed a delicious roast lamb take away on Mothering Sunday , complete with complimentary Prosecco. It was delicious and although we were sad not to be with family on this special day, it was very good, Thanks to Colin and the team who included my daughter in law who helped prepare it and my son who delivered it. We look forward to returning to the Bird in happier days , especially as we have some vouchers to use!

The Bird in Hand has always produced excellent meals for years. When they had to close because of the coronavirus, they started producing take away meals. We had two takeaways today and it was no surprise that the food was excellent and really made a pleasant change to cooking at home. We thoroughly recommend that you try their takeaways. Excellent!

Dinner with friends on a "Eat Out to Help Out" day. So delays, a little mess in service and some mistakes are absolutely acceptable but what is absolutely wrong is blaming customers for mistakes coming from the house. Two persons in the table, one of them myself, ordered as a side a jacked potato. When served a different side the runner (a young kid that was only trying to do his job) tells us that he was going to check what happened. Came back after two minutes with the ticket from the till, saying that the sides we were served were the right ones according to the ticket. I knew what I ordered and I heard my friend ordering so after that I knew, by fact, that the person that took our orders didn't place correctly the sides and I let the runner know, telling him that I work in hospitality, that I know it wasn't his fault, that he was being professional in the manner he was treating us and that, please, he should tell his FOH or BOH managers they should send us the right sides. Answer two minutes after: "sorry guys but I've been told that if you want the jacked potatoes now you got to pay them in addition". WHAT A DISGRACE Anyway I was very happy to be there in a Eat out to help out day and paying just 9 pounds for the rib eye with chips (no jacked pot) instead of 18 pounds. Otherwise it would have been the poorest price/quality rate steak that I would have had in life

With lockdown preventing us enjoying our usual visits to "The Bird" for food and drink, we've instead been enjoying their takeaway food at home. Everything we've ordered has arrived piping hot, generously portioned, and extremely tasty. Definitely the best Sunday roast in the area! Can't wait to be back for a proper meal with a few beers!! (Oh and the homemade cakes are excellent too! Well worth popping in for takeaway coffee and cake during your weekend exercise!)

We were so pleased to return to the Bird after so many months of lockdown. We had an early lunch and were well served on the outside terrace and were offered brand new fleece blankets as it was chilly, despite the sunshine. The Bird is always reliable for good food and service. Special thanks to Colin for fitting us in when they were so busy

The Bird in the hand is a lovely, pub situated just off the River Avon. Great for a coffee and snack after a walk or bike ride. The coffee is always first class and they do a great portion of cheesy chips. The staff are very friendly and helpful, just a shame about the inconsiderate couple, who had to sit right by us upsetting my friends Dogs which meant we had to go. Yeah I know it was our dogs causing the scene, but you had an entire garden to choose where to sit. Never mind we won't let people like this spoil an amazing pub and garden.

While staying in the area we went in here for drinks every afternoon as the atmosphere was lovely & staff very friendly. Today we had lunch & the roast beef was very tasty we all finished every bit. Once again we found the service & the locals lovely. If you have a dog it’s very dog friendly too. Highly recommend

We went to Bird in Hand by chance, having failed to get food service at The Jolly Sailor nearby (despite booking a table there at an allotted time). The service here was excellent – very friendly, obliging and quick – while the food and drink were extremely good, with generous portions of fresh ingredients on the Sunday roasts, salads and desserts. The only criticism was with the Cheddar strawberries and cream. The strawberries tasted unwashed and came complete with stalks, rather than being prepared and hulled, and the cream was clotted cream, which was not as good as ordinary double cream, which could be poured over the strawberries before eating. The chocolate brownies and ice cream, however, were superb. All in all, an excellent, if unplanned Sunday lunch. As the old saying goes, ‘ A bird in the hand…‘!

We had a very good meal here in June 2022. The pub is in the centre of the historic Saltford village, close to the old railway that is now a cycle track. The pub car park gets full up very quickly and there is not many other options in the area for parking. The pub is popular with cyclists who fly up and down the road outside and on and off the incline to the cycle track nearly causing several accidents that we saw in the couple of hours we were there, so please be aware. On the day of our visit the pub appeared to be a bit short of bar staff so there was a long wait for drinks and food ordering unfortunately but the overall quality of the food was very good. The desserts were especially nice - I had the banana split, the first time I’ve seen this on a menu for many years, which was excellent. The real ale was excellently kept. Overall this is a nice pub but with a couple of minor negatives which on another day may have not occurred.

After a lovely walked we were looking forward to a Sunday lunch but we were disappointed in the quality of the service and the food. They got the order wrong but basically said it was us, so as I didn’t want to make a fuss in front of friends I accepted the beef rather than the pork. The meet was passable but very school dinner type. No offer of condiments. Staff seemed young and inexperienced we wanted non alcoholic beer which they got wrong twice which could have been dangerous as our friend cannot drink alcohol yet served wrong drink initially. Also very little choice in non alcoholic beers. Puddings were good but overall wouldn’t return as bill was £150 for 4 mains, drinks and two puddings, nothing very special. Shame as wanted to try it since under new management and refurbishment but they have lost the essence of what this Pub really is, too clinical we feel it’s lost its atmosphere of local non chain pub.

I have to wonder how so many people rate such average food at above average price, so highly. Sweltering conservatory. (open a few more windows) and very noisy. Over long wait for service. Pile of half cooked industrial brick chips, with over cooked hard scampi, awful garlic mushrooms gloopy sauce thing (such an easy basic), veggie option off, wife liked half of her course but salad yekky, more coleslaw than salad, and s p chips overdone to crisp. Desert course lacked finesse, just tonne of faux creme on top of ice cream with fruit in meringue case. Honestly didn't enjoy the meal or paying nearly £50 for some fairly basic pub grub. Probably won't return. I feel that certain pubs dine out on a reputation too long helped by an under critical clientele. Sorry folks.

This was a bit shame. I had fish and chips with peas but the plate was a small plate more appropriate for a starter and therefore it was hard to eat the chips placed under the fish and peas went all over the table (wtf? ) . Someone else in my party had the salmon this was undercooked and when we showed the 1/2 eaten meal to waitress she just said she would tell the chef but didn’t offer to adjust the bill. This place has had a modern make over but it’s lost it charm regarding the food, which was always reliably good.

We visited for Sunday lunch and between us had beef, lamb and pork. It was served with huge Yorkshire puddings and lots of fresh veg and cauliflower cheese without additional cost. Great value at £13.95! The service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely return!
