Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been going here for the last 8 years on a Christmas meal as a group of four friends. Although this year I had to do a lot more chasing up when it came to booking this meal and also getting a pre order...to them (still didn’t have my pre order when we got there) but wasn’t a problem. That said the food was still really good and we had a lovely Christmas meal yet again. Even though it has recently been taken over it was nice to see a familiar face behind the bar who is always really friendly.More

Previously frequent visitors but we went here recently and it was very disappointing - the menu choice was much reduced, the food was excessively greasy and we couldn't finish it and the staff were slow and pretty dim. Such a shame as this used to...be our favourite local spot - hopefully the new owner takes note and ups the standards.More

Having lived in Saltford for a good 10 plus years, we were disappointed by how much the new management seems to have changed the food and service. Both used to be perfect without fail but I fear it wasn't an off day; rather a cost...cutting venture to increase profits that, unfortunately, really shows. Wonder if others will notice, or it was just us? We're not picky 'foodie' types either. As we left we said to each other 'we'll have to give that a miss for a while' which is a shame. We will watch ensuing reviews with interest in the hope it was a one off.More

The Bird has changed hands recently, but the food is as good as ever. The staff have changed however, and we missed the friendliness of the previous staff. The new owner seems to be penny-pinching as the heating wasn't on (it's mid November and 10...degrees outside). I sat in my coat for the entire two hours with frozen legs and feet. Probably won't hurry back until warmer weather arrives.More

Thank you for your review. We had 2 solid days where all our boilers had to be replaced. I can assure the pub is back to being nice, warm and cosy.

Visited in sep and it was amazing! Came back in oct and it didnt have the same standards as before. Not many staff working on a busy night, not including the fact they were rude! Maybe they were tired but no excuse to not have...a smile on their face and be polite. Not impressed at all, get the old staff back place is run by kids.More

Discriminating against age is unacceptable. You are correct in saying this pub is incredibly busy, busier than it's ever been in fact. We apologise if the staff seemed tired on this particular occasion. We have had amazing feedback about our new employees, they are energetic,...More

Have not been back to "The Bird" for some time, so decided it would be a good place to go with our friends, Sylvia and Brian. We had booked ahead, and our table was ready on arrival, the place was heaving. Drinks orders were taken,...leaving us a while to ponder over the food menu. Brian and I had Liver and Bacon, Doreen Ham egg and chips, and Sylvia S&G pie. The food was great, all empty plates. The service was also very friendly and efficient.More

Pub friendly and welcoming staff wise but rather Spartan in terms of decor and layout. Food tasty, hot and delicious well presented and good sized portions. If you are after excellent pub grub, good service and not too pricey then the Bird In Hand is...a good venue.More

Amazing experience, first time here and will definitely be coming back! Myself and my family were served by a lovely member of staff (a short blonde girl) who was absolutely amazing and had extensive knowledge of the menu and was continually friendly and courteous even...when she was rushed off her feet. Absolutely brilliant customer service, good food and a lush pub vibe. Will absolutely be recommending this pub to friends and family.More

We had a lovely evening, partly in thanks to the waitress with the Liverpool accent who was very helpful and friendly, and felt like she couldn't have done more for us! Great food, and even better service, thank you guys!

Appalling. Our food was left outside as the girl forgot where we were sat. She knocked out burger over and just left it. I sent mine back as it was cold. She came back and when I cut into it it was still a bit...frozen. Asked for a refund as I won't eat uncooked food and didn't even get an apology. Sort yourself out...you only had to heat up frozen food for god sake.More

So sad because we love the pub when we’ve been in for drinks but have eaten there twice now recently and both times the food hasn’t been nice. We gave the benefit if the doubt first time as a one off bad meal but the...veg was partially frozen still and the pie was dry and meat was hard. Went again to see see if it was better and had a roast. Nothing seemed home made- not a very nice roast at all which was the consensus of the whole group. Meat was flaky and tasted like school dinner/food van quality. Frozen veg. It tasted like a very basic microwave roast. Definitely felt like a waste of money sadly. Hope some feedback helps to improve thingsMore

I believe that this pub is what tourists have in mind when they say food in England is rubbish. I'm astonished that people are raving about the roasts here, clearly our standards have been lowered. We came for a roast, the meat was impossibly dry ...the depressing Yorkshire puddings were chewy, the roast potatoes tasted boiled, and the stuffing was a very strange "loaf" that was unusually sweet. The only positive to be given was that they didn't ruin the peas. All of this for £16, they didn't even give an impressive portion size to make up for a woeful lack of quality.More
