Dirty, tired and not had any investment in years, the heating wasn't even on and the owner Steve was not interested in our complaint that it was cold, said... " it's Scotland in winter!"

Stopped at this restuarant for lunch on our way to the headland. Lovely lunch, so reasonable & a lovely owner (& staff) who then went with us to the headland & pointed out the islands & gave us a brief history of John O’ Groats.

Outside non assuming but pleasant inside, very friendly and excellent food at a reasonable price. I recommend it.The Meinhost was the owner of the famous horse Oregon Trail who won the Cheltenham some years ago. Good crack!

The Bayview restaurant was surprisingly good and better than expected for pub style food. Service was excellent ! Not 5 star Michelin dining, but good wholesome pub grub.

We were here for a family function, Jo and her staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent there was a lovely selection of sandwiches and the home made soup was delicious.

Freezing, dismal dining room but the fresh crab and lobster ordered in advance from the fishermen lived up to every expectation. Small pub with bar very friendly and pleasant. Not a gourmet rendezvous but if you like seafood go no further!

We actually stayed in the rooms upstairs (which were comfortable by the way) as other places in Lybster were not available that evening and had dinner and breakfast in 2010 on our way back from Orkney. We were so glad we did because the meals...were just lovely back then (despite the restaurant being a little run-down at the time), so I can only imagine what they have done with the restaurant now. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious. Despite the shared bathroom, which was well maintained, the rooms were clean and comfortable. If the food now is as good as it was back then, I would say that this place would be a good stop-over for a meal and a sleep and we'll be back there again soon hopefully.More

This was a very enjoyable experience, don`t pay any attention to the exterior as it looks a bit run down. On entering the bar area we were greeted by a friendly barmaid/waitress, we had a drink in the cosy bar and had a look at...the menu, which was impressive. We had dinner in the newly refurbished dining room, the service was great. Our meal was lovely, i can certainly recommend the seafood chowder for starters, the beer battered fish was beautifully cooked, nice crisp batter and accompanied by home-made chips. All in all a truely well worth while trip. Excellent!! Will certainly be back.More
