Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was superb cooked to a very high standard. I am on a very low carb diet at present and the staff happily altered dishes to meet my diet, nothing was too much trouble and everything done...with a smile. I could not recommend this establishment and its staff highly enough!!!More

We attended the spread eagle on December 16th for our annual family meal. We normally go elsewhere but I thought we would go here for a change because we were married at the church next door so the pub was part of our wedding day,...with everyone meeting there. Sadly the meal was a disaster. From ordering to receiving the last meal took 2 hours. All the meals came out at different times over 45 minutes and that was after we had waited over an hour and I asked when we would receive any food. My pie was inedible and when I asked for a different piece I was told it was the last one so I sent my food back, as did my wife and my mother in law. I was told when paying that the kitchen was understaffed. I wish I was told this at the start of the meal instead of an annual family meet being ruined. The manager took the meals we sent back off the bill and gave us the drinks for free which was of little benefitMore

Excellent food and drink, great atmosphere, service and welcoming cannot be improved upon. Post Christmas wonderfully decorated already for Valentine’s Day. A great place in the most beautiful village of Lymm to have lunch with family or friends. You’re always made welcome.

Called in here for lunch on a bitterly cold but bright day. We had been walking for 2 hours and had another 2 to go down the Trans Pennine Trail. The pub and the welcome from the staff were lovely and warm and the real...fire burning in the restaurant was perfect. Food was excellent, pan fried sea bass definitely recommended. Service was spot on too. Just what we needed to re-energise and complete the walk. Definitely coming back.More

I’ve been here a few times, including for my birthday meal, and keep going back because it’s a cosy, friendly and unpretentious pub with an extremely well kept and decent pint. Seen some of the reviews on here and yes, on one occasion they clearly...had a staff shortage but they worked hard to keep up. I always find the staff very pleasant and welcoming. The cheese and onion pie is the best thing in my opinion. A very good, solid, generous slice of cheesy decadence. My family members speak very well of the classic roast including one discerning Uncle who can’t abide tough meat. The fact that he gave it the thumbs up speaks volumes. The Halloween and Christmas decorations were brilliant, remarkable! When we go to Lymm we regularly think we’ll try somewhere else for a change but I gravitate back to this pub, it has a certain charming quality.More

Cold food. The young lad who served us was rushed off his feet and did the best he could so didn’t complain at the time. Chicken burger had no mayo, no salsa and no dill pickle, basically a chicken fillet on a dry bun with...a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce. Won’t be back.More
