Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An exceptional pub. A real happy find that we just chanced upon rather than searched for. It has friendly, bright staff, a relaxed atmosphere, excellent door and beers, and beautiful views across Cornish countryside to the distant sea. I could go on; easy parking, good...value, and lots of outdoor seating which will be wonderful on a sunny day. Pubs like this are few and far between.More

The Sunday roast was exceptional, we stayed at Tamar View Holiday Park which was fantastic, short walk down the road. The staff were amazing and friendly, service was excellent, portion size was excellent, we can eat but couldn’t eat it all! First time ever! Would...definitely recommend and will return when we visit again.More

Treated by family to Sunday roast dinner. Booked late and reserved a table for 2 pm. My roast lamb meal was outstanding - best I’ve ever had. The lamb was cooked to perfection, tender but not too pink. The mixed vegetables were so tasty and...they seemed freshly cooked and the roast potatoes crunchy. The flavour of the gravy was outstanding. I particularly liked the Celeriac cubes which so enhanced the flavours. Had a beautiful Mango Sorbet to finish my meal. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and the surroundings relaxing. It’s no wonder the Inns car park is frequently packed when I go past. The new management have worked so hard to completely transform this place which has an excellent function room as well and side room which can be used for small events and coffee mornings. Well done and my compliments to your wonder chef and all your staff. I’d give you 10 stars if I could. Forgot to mention that well behaved dogs are also welcomed.More

We were on holiday and decided to try the Rifle Volunteer and very glad we did! Lovely table in the conservatory. Fabulous staff! Huge portions! Lovely food. Very reasonable price. All round 10/10 from us. So good we went back 3 evenings later! Highly recommend...but do book as it does get very busy.More

I used this pub about a month ago then chose it today . All we had was a sandwich , a bowl of chips and two drinks . It was brilliant last time and this time . I first used the pub when I was...too young to drink but had some anyway . I was probably 15 then and I am now 75 . Previous to our last two visits I came in here about thirty years ago . What a change they have made . Well worth a visit . My wife and I both love it .More

First visit, 5 of us, celebrating our Father’s birthday. 2 of us had mushroom….on toasted sourdough as a starter but sourdough soft texture wasn’t properly toasted. I didn’t have a starter, being vegetarian I didn’t fancy any of the 5 meals - 2 currys, burger,...but chose homity pie with salad. The others had ham, egg & chips which was a nice size compared to my small pie & lettuce. I felt I was missing chips or veg? I did mention this afterwards to staff who said as homity pie contains potato they don’t serve it with chips (although what’s in a small pie wouldn’t be equivalent to a portion of chips), I was then offered chips but had finished my meal. Dessert I had cheesecake which was alright but was so low in height. 2 had apple crumble tart & custard, our Father missed reading ‘tart’ and thought he was having proper apple crumble which always beats a tart which possibly was shop bought?More

Superb food, I cannot remember the last time we went out and had such delicious and hot food! Homemade chips. Absolutely delicious. My only complaint? The garden peas were a bit hard! Otherwise, it could not fault. We will visiting again. 😀

A really excellent pub (with a fabulous restaurant room that doesn’t feel like a pub at all). Very varied menu with good portions. Spotlessly clean, excellent staff. We ate here twice on holiday and had one food query which was very quickly sorted in a...very friendly manner. Lots of Gluten Free offerings. Can’t go wrong to eat at the Rifle Volunteer.More

Yes probably, the place gets really busy, we booked in advance and the time they gave us was a little early but it was because they were fully booked after 6pm. Excellent place, service and food. Hope you enjoy!
