Location of the restaurant is simply great, on the beach of Popenguine. You can relax and enjoy your lunch on the sand and under the shade.
There were good options for the food and all our choices resulted excellent (either meal or fish)

food is not up to expectations in a place like this. Service is quite slow too. Shame because the setting is unbeatable. it is far to go for the day from Dakar, but if you spend a week end in Saly this is a nice option

We love to come back again and again
The seafood is always fresh and well cooked
I had grilled fish with fries. Husband chose chicken with rice and salad
We had prawns and calamari as starter and coffee with small deserts eg creame brûlée, chocolate and small cake
Amazing and we will be back again

We had a great meal, good wine and the waitresses where very good and attentive. The waiter though was a different story. A shame.

Came here twice and loved the fact I can get a dip in the sea while waiting for the food.
Plus points
Owner was nice enough to lend a swimsuit to my friend who forgot to bring hers
My friends ordered a vegetarian main course.
I had raw sliced fish while my partner had fried eggplant.
All were nice but they took over an hour to arrive.
Points to note
Dessert was ok - chocolate mousse.
Long wait for food and dessert.

To celebrate my girlfriends birthday we decided to go to Popenguine for a special dinner. I made a simple but significant mistake - instead of calling L'echo Cotier I accidentally called a restaurant called Le Cocotier. I booked a table and asked if we could bring a bottle of my girlfriend’s favourite wine and pay corkage, they happily agreed.
That evening we arrived at the wrong L'echo Cotier, took a seat and placed the birthday wine on the table. The old lady who runs the restaurant comes over visibly drunk and aggressively demands to know what we think we are doing bringing wine to her restaurant. I apologise and try to explain that I thought I had called but she decides the appropriate response is to loudly accuse me of lying before lecturing our group that young people today have no idea how to behave. I am 33!

During my 10 day stay, I ended up eating at Echo Cotier twice. The real setting is more impressive than any photo can do justice. Friendly service, diverse menu (most of the restaurants along the Petite Cote offer grilled fish) including some interesting meat dishes. Good selection of well priced wines.

If you ever stop by la Petite Côte, you must go to Poponguine. If yougo to Poponguine, you must absolutely go to l’Écho-côtier. Seriously I can’t find a flaw with this place. Don’t listen to any negative review.... food is excellent and fresh, good choice of wines, perfect service, on the beach with an incredible sunset... I mean what more do you want???

A little gem. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The food (up to now) always good. The street/beach vendors discreet. I love the fact that you can stay there a whole day moving from a sun lounger to a table as you wish.
The view and location is great.

CONTEXT
Dakar has a lot of mediocre restaurants which can charge a lot of money because they are frequented by expatriates, and beyond fresh fish (which is well done pretty much everywhere) you end up eating the same frozen veggie mix, white rice and overcooked meat and seafood over and over.
THE SETTING
Popenguine is already the most charming of Dakar's seaside resorts and if you live in the city the first thing you notice is the calm. The beach is clean; there is only the sound of waves, and you can really relax.
THE MEAL
From the tiny amuse-bouches to the perfectly strong espresso, everything here was (almost) perfectly executed when we visited. We had a grilled squid starter which was unbelievably tender, along with some pretty mediocre Vietnamese-style spring rolls (skip). The camerones (don't know English word for this, a large crustacean) come in an incredible creamy sauce and the beef main is the ONLY TIME I have had tender meat in Dakar. Wine is fairly priced and the café gourmand is a delight, as is their ice cream. A must for any visitor to Dakar and worth the 1.5 hr drive.
The staff are also lovely and funny and fall over themselves to help, for example showing us where to have a shower after a having a pre-lunch dip.

Echo cotier is a hidden gem. We decided to explore Popenguine and stopped by the Echo cotier for a lunch break. This place is just amazing. This restaurant is secluded and the beach is just wonderful. I strongly recommend to book your table and be patient. Food was really good. This is

Secluded, surprisingly beautiful setting, nice beach. Very calm in the evening, apparently need to book for lunches (especially in the weekend). The food is very good in its own right, but especially price / quality ratio is excellent. Heartily recommended. Don't forget to take cash though, no credit cards. And an ATM nearby, good luck :-) (they do take Euro's at normal XE rate.)

The food and general ambiance were good, but client relations not good. On this special Christmas Day, owner challenges a guest of hostess for our party why I did not call her beforehand to ask if I could bring champagne and pay corkage. I had indeed tried for 3 days without success to call my hostess, her phone was broken - so I was humiliated in front of our entire party through no fault of my own. Not a good Christmas experience.
