My husband and I walked into this place because we were hungry, and because it was right around the corner from our hotel. Are people really calling what those "hostesses" are wearing traditional Mexican costumes? They were dressed like prostitutes! Or maybe something more akin to Playboy bunnies. There were 5 of these ladies outside, and about 6 more inside,... More

Our first night in the city - we were pleasantly surprised to find a great place around the corner from our hotel. We were famished as we had been driving for over 5 hours from Guadalajara and were treated to a delicious meal, starting with the Octopus ala Gallega for an appetizer, my husband had the sea bass wrapped in... Foodwise I quite like la soldadera. I had grilled octopus and a wine suggested by the waitress. I cannot complain. Definitely better if you are in a group of friends, not indicated for couples in my opinion. I had a discussion with a waitress once because the tip was not high enough... the thing was that she did not realised... More

Without a doubt, 'La Soldadera' is one of the best restaurants in Mexico City. Its name refers to what the women of the Mexican rebels during the Revolution used to be called. So, the fact that the restaurant has a grand view of the magnificent Monument to the Mexican Revolution, and is aptly decorated as an early 20th century Mexican... More

if you have ever been to Earls or Joeys in Canada, this is the Mexican equivalent. Beautiful women dressed in traditional costumes greet you and are your waitresses and servers. This is a classy establishment, flirtation is the norm. It is better for a night out with friends, a couples dinner or a business meeting. A wandering Mariachi band adds... More

The food we had was good and agreeable, as was the ambiance for a group of American men. The service was excellent, but I felt sorry for the extreme sexual bias catering to males with the obviously uncomfortable costumes of the female staff. Couples of equality would not be comfortable here. Other than the rabid Latino "machismo" style, I would... More

Soldadera is a great place to take in the atmosphere and enjoy an excellent meal. They prepare a traditional Caesar salad table side. Besides the Mexican standards their chefs throw down with hard to find specialties like bone marrow soup and venison cooked with a Mexican flare. Try the queso fundido w/ blue corn tortillas!
