La Olla is a well established restaurant that has been very popular with locals and visitors for many years. They have excellent breakfasts, and there lunch menu is also excellent. In addition to the downstairs room, there is a dining room on the second floor, and a rooftop room that is good for watching the sunset. I like their moles,... More

This small restaurant (only 7 tables) has a traditional vibe with its back wall of ceramics and its traditional stone oven at the front where the tortillas are hand-made. The large menus covers several Oaxacan traditional dishes. We particularly love and recommend their Oaxacan Tamal, served in a delicious mole negro.

One of the first restaurants in Oaxaca to champion local cuisine using fresh ingredients! The menu is always interesting using Oaxaquena produce arranged tastefully. The setting is elegant and enlivened by art work on the walls. The third floor a long climb up, offers a nice view of the Centro Historico; it is cool and refreshing in the evenings and... More

We had both lunch and late snack at La olla . The lunch sandwich (Chicken and ham ) was exceptionally dry ...the whole wheat bread was likely a day old and crumbled apart as it was eaten. My wife had the taco trio which was fine. We returned later for a bowl of soup before going to a function. The squash... More

Get a table upstairs if you can - where the bar is. Start with a mojito or a margarita, while you are choosing your food and looking at the world going by from the windows... The staff is really nice and competent, the food is absolutely delicious... A must!

Before we had arrived in Oaxaca this restaurant was recommended by a friend of a friend who has visited this charming town many times. We stumbled on it while walking about the cobblestone streets and decided to give it a try. We could not have been more delighted. There is a fixed price menu for lunch which was recommended but... La olla was the first restaurant on my Oaxaca trip. The restaurant is so cosy. But you dont really see the local people. Lots if Americans and other turists. The cheese in chile sauce was soooo delicious. It is a die for. I also liked the other dishes but missed salt. Therefore my point is 4 and not 5.

My husband and I went for lunch. It was a 4 course deal. Firs we got x3 small pcs of tomatoes with three small pieces of cheese on a plate. Second, three thin ravioli with a clear bouillon soup. Third was risotto and a small piece of chicken steak. For desert tiramisu. It wasnt the right type of cake tiramisu,... More

On prior visits to Oaxaca we often had breakfast here, and enjoyed it, not realizing they also served lunch and dinner. Last night we went for dinner. I had the squash flower soup, and it was delicate and tasty. For mains my partner had the shrimps with purslane salad, and was very satisfied with them. I had the fish in... More

Description
This small, charming restaurant has a lot going for it. Located only two blocks from historic Santo Domingo Church, and within easy walking distance of the Zocalo, La Olla is very popular with both foreign residents and visitors as well as with locals. La Olla is one of the more trendy eateries in the city, and our spotless kitchen produces a wide array of traditional Oaxacan, continental, and vegetarian foods. We pride ourselves in serving the best quality of products available, and most of our produce is grown locally and delivered to us by farmers during the week. Our coffee is locally roasted and the foods we serve are extremely fresh. We bake delicious apple strudel, chocolate cake, oatmeal cookies, vanilla flan, and more on our premises daily! All of our creations are cooked to order, prepared fresh starting when we receive your order. We use more fresh fruits and vegetables to create healthful and visually attractive dishes than any other restaurant in Oaxaca. Delicious sandwiches are served on home-baked whole wheat bread, and we even make the mayonnaise in our kitchen. There is a wide variety of healthy drinks available, using unusual combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables. The main meal of the day in Oaxaca is eaten in the afternoon. A real bargain at "La Olla" is the "Menu del día" or "Comida corrida", a full meal which changes daily, for only $90 pesos served from 1-4 pm. It includes a freshly-made salad, followed by a soup, a choice of two entrees, with tortillas or bread, and finishing with a dessert or espresso coffee. Many typical Oaxacan dishes are featured, and for a low price you can experience traditional cuisine at its very best. There is also a full a la carte menu featuring a wide selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The prices are moderate and the quality very high. La Olla is proud to display and promote artwork created by local, regional and international artists. Our gallery is open daily during restaurant hours. The art on display is available for sale, and the gallery selection is changed periodically.
