We bypassed the modern wood tables giving a clean Scandinavian air to the ground floor and first floor to climb the circular metal stairs to the roof. The thick stone walls and Arabic tile domes of Santo Domingo, with its almost medieval lines and shadows, dominate the skyline. Sounds from the Alcala pedestrian street and from Abasolo drift up. We... More

We stayed at the Casa next door and arrived late the first night in Oaxaca so we went to Olla as it was simple and right there. We had a great simple meal and promised ourselves to go back which we did. The second time we had an even better meal as we were rested and hungry, in fact we... More

This place has somewhat dull inside space on ground level and first floor, but the real attraction is the lovely open air roof terrace. Charming with plants and flowers and away from traffic noise. We enjoyed the food, both local and western, they offer a good selection of wine.

We did not try this restaurant until our last week being in Oaxaca. Good food, hidden up stairs, so we passed it by, finally friends invited us to see a band playing there one evening. Delicious food - and desserts - lively atmosphere with the band - and many local people enjoying the ambience ! Definitely on our list when... More

Went for dinner at this restaurant, nice upstairs seating area. Food really good except my husband's fish not cooked properly & by the time it was returned to him I had finished my main! Good margaritas. Main thing I disliked was that there seemed to be a problem with the credit card machine & they ended up imputing our bill... More

We went there for breakfast twice during our stay. Simple food, but well done. Home made yogurt with honey and granola, fresh fruit, huevos rancheros with refried beans, freshly made tortillas, as well as organic coffee, cappuccino, etc. They also run a cooking school on Fridays, but unfortunately we had to leave for home that day, so we just bought... Pleasant farm to table restaurant with innovative plates and a signature mezcal cocktail with apples. Yes, apples. Worth having several. Restaurant is part of the Bugambilias B&B.

Having been recommended by a reliable friend, we were looking forward to eating at La Olla. It didn't work out. We ordered the quesillo envuelto as an appetizer. Since it says on the menu that it's wrapped and then put on the grill we were expecting it to come out hot, but no - even the sauce was cold and... More

This is the second time we have been to this restaurant and enjoyed it as much as the first. Our table was on the upper level open to the air with views is Santo Domingo. After a rough start with the waiters taking away our appetizer and replacing with our salad before we finished, we quickly set them straight that... More

This small, charming restaurant has a lot going for it. Located only two blocks from historic Santo Domingo Church, and within easy walking distance of the Zocalo, La Olla is very popular with both foreign residents and visitors as well as with locals. La Olla is one of the more trendy eateries in the city, and our spotless kitchen produces a wide array of traditional Oaxacan, continental, and vegetarian foods. We pride ourselves in serving the best quality of products available, and most of our produce is grown locally and delivered to us by farmers during the week. Our coffee is locally roasted and the foods we serve are extremely fresh. We bake delicious apple strudel, chocolate cake, oatmeal cookies, vanilla flan, and more on our premises daily! All of our creations are cooked to order, prepared fresh starting when we receive your order. We use more fresh fruits and vegetables to create healthful and visually attractive dishes than any other restaurant in Oaxaca. Delicious sandwiches are served on home-baked whole wheat bread, and we even make the mayonnaise in our kitchen. There is a wide variety of healthy drinks available, using unusual combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables. The main meal of the day in Oaxaca is eaten in the afternoon. A real bargain at "La Olla" is the "Menu del día" or "Comida corrida", a full meal which changes daily, for only $90 pesos served from 1-4 pm. It includes a freshly-made salad, followed by a soup, a choice of two entrees, with tortillas or bread, and finishing with a dessert or espresso coffee. Many typical Oaxacan dishes are featured, and for a low price you can experience traditional cuisine at its very best. There is also a full a la carte menu featuring a wide selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The prices are moderate and the quality very high. La Olla is proud to display and promote artwork created by local, regional and international artists. Our gallery is open daily during restaurant hours. The art on display is available for sale, and the gallery selection is changed periodically.
