This is always one of our go-to beach restaurants in Playa. Not fancy, good food, very reasonable, decent to good service depending on who is your waiter. This is the oldest beach restaurant in Playa and is one we always recommend to friends and family!

it was my first time, I really liked it. I had the ceviche and the fried fish, they were both excellent. we also had the tik-n-xic – , it is fish marinated wrapped in a banana leaf. it was amazing.

Everytime we stay in Playa Del Carmen we come to La Tarraya for lunch on the beach. Great value and great food! We always get the mixed ceviche of shrimp and pulpo & the pulpo in chipotle sauce. The drinks are great too! If you are looking for a great place to eat on the beach without breaking the bank,... More

I think this is the oldest restaurant on the beach on Playa. The bears are cheap, the food is cheap, but it's good for what you pay.......and, you're right on the beach, so that makes the food taste a little better. Seriously though, they've got some great habanero salsa. As an entree I'll usually get the garlic buttered shrimp or... More

We camped on the chairs and tables a few times on our visit to Playa. The service was great, the prices, unbeatable and the food awesome. It's a nice place to hang out, music not to loud, sights and sounds .... so authentically Mexican. We tried a fish meal, cannot remember said dead fish's type, albeit it was so tasty... More

We were a table of six. It was not crowded as it is off season. We are all permanent residents. I had heard good things about LaTarraya. It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. The staff was friendly, just very slow. The food was reasonably priced but we were all disappointed in our choices. Lovely setting but would... More

I was looking for a good fried fish, just getting into the beach from 5th Avenue I found a place on the left with a sign on the sand and a big fried fish, I asked the price only 220.00 Mxn +US$12.00 excellent. The fish was crunchy and big (1kilo+- 2 lbs), and also asked for ceviche, which I had... More

This restaurant was recommended by the Lonely Planet guide. However, the food was not particularly tasty and the service was very basic. Very cheap.

Loved eating right on the beach looking at the ocean! The fish was extremely fresh, delicious, and nice portion size! And the price can't be beat!

We have been to Playa for the last few years and after discovering it on our first trip, La Tarraya is always our first go-to stop when we're back in town. It definitely is not the fancy-schmancy tourist trap-like place you'll find on 5th, but SO worth the scenery, service and delicious, fresh food!! Guac for less than $5 and... More

Description
The grouper with garlic and butter for 90 pesos can't be beat anywhere. Service was good, portions are huge , drinks are large and excellent, and the location is right on the beach (feet in the sand if you choose). A great value.
