The hotel staff at Zamas recommended that we go to el tabano for dinner and we are SO GLAD that they did. The food could not have tasted better. We had coconut shrimp and a fish with green sauce over it... I forget the name. DO NOT MISS this one its an absolute gem and best food we had!!!

This is high end cuisine. Not beach front, but open air and fresh food. Cocktails, beer and food was good, but pricey. Worth a visit if you tire of tacos.

El Tábano is another restaurant that has the open-air concept. This means you're sweating very unattractively but can sip on a fancy cucumber mint green juice to cool down while you peruse their huge blackboards covered in the daily features. We got a cactus salad (more like green beans than leafy texture) but it was covered in gooey queso, a... More

Amazing. We liked it even better than Hartwood! Fresh local options, indoor outdoor location. Out favorite in the area.

Food was so good here! Recommend the habernero fish (might not have spelt that right!), shrimp dishes - food was one of the best meals out we had. Also special mention to Jay the barman who kept us entertained and was very friendly and chatty along with being a great barman! :)

We never ate on site, but had several meals catered by El Tabano and it was so delicious. The owner and staff could not have been kinder and more accommodating. All food and drink and were fabulous! Wonderful!

El Tabano is my favorite restaurant in Tulum. I ate there twice during my last trip, once the previous spring and every meal was terrific. Everything's cooked from scratch, and the food is not just tasty but interesting--fresh-caught fish with a variety of sauces, salads with incredibly tasty tomatoes and cheese, some of it in traditional Mayan style and some... We turned up on a Saturday night but the restaurant was closed for a wedding - it looked beautiful with fairylights. We went the following night and weren't disappointed. There aren't any menus as the choices are all written on chalk boards. The food was delicious, fresh and home made - the kitchen was open plan, so you could watch... More

We had dinner here the first evening in Tulum. Without a lot of expectations we walked in. We discovered one of the best places you can eat at while here. The guacamole salad is just delicious and also the shrimps are tasty and fresh. The waiters are friendly and walk you through the menu if any doubts. Don't miss it!!!
