Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The pub was great with good food and friendly staff, but the campsite was poor - completely waterlogged. The worst thing though (never stay on a Saturday night) was the banging rave music that started in the pub and carried on in the camping field...until the early hours. A member of staff told me that it was always like this! I have never smelt so much pot, I can only imagine what other substances were being taken, and in the morning there were vans and cars with people asleep in the field and carpark. Definitely not good for children and staff made no attempt to calm things down, which says it all!More

The campsite was ok (if a little muddy but rain can't be helped in October!) and the toilets were clean, didn't use the showers. My only gripe about the site is the per person camping charge, for two nights with electric it cost us over...£60 - out of season too! We take our van away loads and usually pay between £12 and £15 per night, even in the summer. A little more for sites with a pool/clubhouse as expected. The charges are way too high here for a pub, toilets and showers. The food and drinks in the pub were very reasonable, food was nice and staff were friendly.More

This review is for the campsite which is in the same grounds as the pub. Absolutely horrible place, this is not a safe place for family camping. Lots of drinking and drug use and very loud music to the early hours of the morning.

Hard to find in amongst industrial type environment. Warm welcome. Food took too long to arrive and when it did arrive it was cold in the centre, returned it but no apology. Can’t recommend.

Pubs like this don’t exist anymore. No airs, no graces, no pretensions — just very good at doing it’s job. Def ‘counter culture’ so if this is not you then don’t visit. Otherwise you will have a wonderful free and easy time with, in these...inflationary times, bar prices from four years ago. Cheers. Well done. Keep it up.More

Stopped off here to try the food and see the campsite after being served terrible food elsewhere. The menu was extensive and I opted for the pie, chips and vegetables. The homemade pie was stuffed full of meat [I couldnt eat it all], homemade gravy...with a asizeable portion of chips and fresh veg. For £12 it was a bnargain, even mor eso if youre staying on their offer of £17.55 a night. it put shame on the watery undercooked rice curry dish I had to send back twice at a nearby place after which they. refused to cook me fresh rice. At over £16, i could have stayed here the night and been full on suoerb homemade food. Will seriously consider staying here next time.More

Arrived here Tuesday 15th August, 1st impressions were not brilliant I have to say! The whole atmosphere was very much hippy style with the aroma of joss sticks and marijuana in equal measures! The main bar area is painted as a homage to Stonehenge which...kind of matched the clientele perfectly. The Barge Inn seemIngly is positioned above a leighline €> We were supposed to be here for the week but no cannot stay here any longer without a shower working!! There are two showers in the block for amenities which were out of use and one toilet which was disgustingly dirty, toilet rolls had run out and not replaced in the two days we stayed here, not even so much as any soap to wash your hands or paper hand towels to dry them on !!! The floor was very muddy and again hadn’t been cleaned. The Barge Inn pub we found not very welcoming , all staff would benefit from further customer service training in my opinion as they all seemed unmotivated and not wanting to be be there. We ate here once and have to say the food was excellent, however the tables outside were once again neglected and unclean, there were empty glasses, dirty plates attracting lots of wasps which made our dining experience very unpleasant. We searched campsites and have now found one that has a vacancy thank god! Don’t even bother with this place if your expecting cleanliness 😡🤢More

The 5 star review is for the campsite, camping at the barge. Not the pub. Easy to book site, with toilets and showers available. Lenny is an absolute gem of a man! He couldn't be more friendly and helpful if he tried. Huge thank you...Lenny, you're a star! Now the pub... We had intended on eating in the pub on Saturday night. As it happens, they did have a wedding on, so they couldn't take food orders till half 6. If they don't have enough staff to accommodate a wedding and the general public, I completely understand. We did ask a few times if there was any chance we could just get a simple bowl of chips for the children in our group, staff would say they would go and ask, but nobody came back. We decided to go back to our van and make do with what we had in the van. There was a few hostilities towards our dog. We have a German shepherd who can be vocal at times, especially when a small boy kept running his dog round the back of my girl when she was resting. Then little boy decided to shout at my dog, calling her a bad dog!!! She's not a bad dog, you was being an annoying little boy repeatedly running your dog around ours. Another woman with a small dog in the pub, decided to be extremely rude, demanding my dog leave.. when it was her rat doing the barking!! Overall I wouldn't visit this pub again. Campsite I would return so long as Lenny is thereMore

Originally visited in June and enjoyed a good meal and good service. Then booked a table for a family get together. Queued at the bar to get the attention of staff. Advised of our table booking, no welcome, handed menu's not shown to our table....We believed it was table service as on the previous occasion but soon realised we had to queue and order at the bar. Food arrived, we were not asked if we wanted condiments or sauces etc. Asked for a jug of water, but it never appeared. Food not to the standard as on the previous occasion. Decided not to have desserts. Over charged on the bill We are tolerant people but the service was poor, the food below standard and the experience was such that we wont return to or recommend this pub.More

Have been to the barge a number of time for drinks and love the bohemian chilled vibes! We decided to try it for meal and despite the food being ok, the rude staff member who served us ruined it! Firstly we had starters which were...delicious and after stacking our plates and to help the waitress out (I work in hospitality so know the awks moment of reaching over people to clear their plates) the waitress questioned whether we needed more cutlery for our main meal… surely this is obvious as you’ve cleared away the knives and forks we were given to begin with! Then my partner ordered the ribs (which were amazing, melt off the bone), I asked the waitress whether he could have a bowl of water for his hand & she looked at me like I’d asked her to crap in her hands and clap, then questioned what I want a bowl of water for with a sneer! If I’d asked for anything out of the ordinary I can understand the weird look or sneering comment, but a bowl of water with ribs is common practise I thought! I’m very tolerant of crap customer service because I get it, I do it daily and sometimes people have off days! But this young girl was rude and simply looked bored being there! I’m not expecting 5* service from a pub like the barge but I was appalled at being spoken to like I was. The other staff who we spoke to were very helpful and kind.More

The pub itself was lovely and the food was good. That’s where the positives end. The camping field was scruffy with bits of rubbish strewn around, & empty bottles on the floor near the glamping tents area! Such a shame as that area has been...made to look quite pretty & things like this let the place down. A random plate & a quilt were left on the floor by the fire the whole time we were there, right where new arrivals enter the site so no good impressions to be had there! The showers & toilets in the portacabin stank & were unclean and the showers in the pub were dirty too. Yuk! Each to there own, but we wouldn’t returnMore

Our 2nd visit to the Barge inn and did not disappoint, an honest review… if you want a peaceful trip away and a quiet night then don’t go (simples), however, if you’re after a lively atmosphere with great people live music and a wonderful setting,...then the Barge won’t let you down. We never usually return to the same sites, but have found our little gem of a place and plan to visit as often as we can. Lenny and his crew work tirelessly to keep everything running 👌.
