Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dropped in for Impromptu lunch after long walk with two dogs 5 mins before lunch stopped serving on a Saturday. Very welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Food clearly homemade and delicious soup and pie with local ales at reasonable prices. Will definitely come back...again. RecommendedMore

The service was amazing the lad that served us was brilliant he was obviously busy but was great we couldn't book prior and he apologised and booked us...right in.He was brilliant all night he was absolutely great so professional and helpful he really made the difference to the evening. The young girl that served the food was great aswell just didn't have as much to do with her. We would definitely recommend and come back again when in the area.More

One of the nicest pubs we have ever stayed in. Louis is a credit to the Royal Oak. He is the nicest, most friendly and caring bar person and nothing is too much trouble. He’s made our stay that extra bit special. Food is delicious....Thank you LouisMore

Stayed overnight and ate in the restaurant. Loved it. Delicious food, excellent service. Comfy bed, plenty of hot water. My only gripe is that the walls are thin. We might as well have been in the same room as the people next door, inc hearing...them in the bathroom. Did ask if we could move but the only room had a small double and that didn't work for us, so we decided to stick with it. And the people next door must have realised they could hear us so we could hear them and piped down. Highly recommend. Make sure to book if you want dinner, it was busy!More

We were on holiday just a few minutes away from the Royal Oak . We took a stroll along the road for a Sunday lunch time drink arriving maybe one or two minutes after two . They stop serving lunch at two . At the...bar I said I realise you have stopped serving lunch but is there any chance of a round of sandwiches . We don’t do sandwiches on a Sunday was the reply only bags of crisps. Not exactly welcoming hospitality! They weren’t exactly busy with a number of staff on hand . We saw one table being served with their main course some twenty minutes after two . So all in all they missed out on a sale of at two Sunday lunches plus drinks or a couple of rounds of sandwiches at around £9 a round all because they couldn’t be bothered to put in a little extra effort. No wonder pubs are going out of businessMore

Very disappointed. Mains over priced and didn't come with potatoes or veg, they were extra. The raspberry roulade was very strange. Will not be eating there again.

We normally visit this pub frequently when holidaying in the area. This time things seemed very different with the food. I ordered pork medallions, I was asked if I wanted any side orders so I asked what it came with and was told nothing. So...I asked for vegetables and potatoes only to be told they do not offer potatoes only vegetables? Even the waitress said it was odd. When we have been before most meals came with the appropriate accompaniments but now they are extra and they do not offer any kind of potatoes other than chips, which would not have gone with the pork dish. I opted to change to fish and chips. Food was OK, frozen chips, nothing like it used to be and not worth the price. Sadly after many years, this will no longer be our regular eatery while in the area.More

A great find. We received the warmest of welcomes from a gent behind the bar (the best for many years). We initially sat in the snug but were invited into the main bar as space became available. The service was excellent. The food arrived promptly...even though our sitting was late,it was excellent quality and nice and hot. A generous amount as starter and main so much so we couldn't manage dessert. Will def go back.More

Hi there is a ground floor room with en suite available for guests and their dog, also a 'snug' area indoors & ample outside tables with parasols for use during the summer.
