I've been coming to Porthtowan for about 15 years and was always a dedicated fan of Blue Bar on the beach front. I tended to think of the Unicorn as the 'nearly' man because it always missed out to it's rival because of the positioning. To be honest, in the past, I judged the Unicorn as a bit dated, lacking... We came in and had some food as a family The tall chap named Dan served us our drinks and food. He bought us our drinks to the table and made us smile along with our food. He made us really welcome. The food was amazing and so was the service. We all left smiling and full. Thanks Dan and... More

Tuck in whist watching the near waves crash on the beach, at the Unicorn nothing beats a burger on a cold, wet and windy evening. Eaten here a few times and the Chef's name who escapes me but he's short, slim has a beard and cracking smile; make sure he's in to cook up a tasty treat. All the staff... More

The Unicorn pub was taken over just over a year ago and it has completely changed for the better. It used to be a place I would avoid like the plague. The food was awful and the staff were rude. The effort the new owners have taken to turn the place around is incredible. The food is some of the... More

Popped in for supper and had an enjoyable meal with friendly service. Fresh fish with great chips and a well presented, tasty Thai green curry. Excellent desserts too. We look forward to a returning soon. Well worth a visit.

Me and my wife decided to head to the Blue bar for lunch only to find the Blue bar shut for refurbishment, so we decided to go to the Unicorn instead as I had read reviews on here saying that it had improved a lot recently. The reviews were correct, we both went for burgers and they were really good,... More

Just returned from a stay in Porthtowan. Nice pub, very close to beach and very friendly owners who welcomed us and our dog both nights that we visited. Good food, reasonably priced. Husband enjoyed the beer. We will definitely be returning to Porthtowan and the Unicorn. PS No loud techno-garage-funk music at all on our visits as previously mentioned !!

Scrubbed wooden floors, tatty furniture, and just loud. All the time, everywhere. Great if you like to shout, and even better if you like what was, apparently, techno-garage-funk music played at top volume. If you are looking for a traditional pub and a cosy seat to gaze at the sea, don't go here.....
