Were staying locally and have stayed at the hotel before so a dinner at the Gurnard’s Head was a must. Lovely pub and restaurant. Great menu and wine list. Can’t go far wrong with using local produce and that’s what the hotel did. A fun...More

One of the best restaurants in this part of Cornwall, it is worth travelling out the way for. They do a great set lunch in winter, and the brown crab rarebit is well worth trying, as is the Gurnard if it is on the menu...More

Lovely cosy restaurant serving good food. I really loved the decor and country style. We both had braised beef which was delicious. My partner found his pigeon starter quite tough, but I enjoyed my fish cakes. The rice pudding dessert was probably the best dessert...More

Three courses for 21. Excellent, limited, choice but gorgeously cooked food, pleasant service, super reasonable price, similar to its sister place nearby, the old coast guard, great place. Make a reservation. Have lunch. The dinner food and some of the wine list is over ambitiously...More

Truly excellent meal with friends in a cosy setting. Well chosen and locally sourced ingredients imaginative cooking with skill and precision. Fish not surprisingly was spot on, but the venison was also perfect. Desserts especially the chocolate mousse and the banana parfait were to die...More

Three of us enjoyed an excellent two course lunch here in October. Deservedly, the food at the Gurnards Head has a high reputation. In our experience it has a unique ability to turn up unusual and interesting dishes side by side with reliable old favourites....More

We were driving through rural Cornwall and a fair way to the next town. It was lunchtime and it was cold wet and windy when we stumbled on this friendly yellow pub standing by its self on the moors. We went in not expecting too...More

The Gurnards Head is a fabulous old inn looking out to the Atlantic, round the corner from the farming hamlet of Treen. Just 500 yards from the dramatic coastline, isolated, but within 15 minutes of Penzance and St Ives, this handsome hideout ticks every conceivable box. The sunshine is brought inside in the brightly decorated, comfortable dining room serving fresh, unbeatably good food from a menu that changes according to the catch of the day. Though the emphasis is on ease and honest enjoyment, theres nothing relaxed about the quality and attention to detail given to the food, drink and service. Lunch is chosen from a chalk board, while the evening introduces the la carte which usually features local steak and hazelnut-crusted Megrim Sole. The best seats are the window ones overlooking the fields and ocean beyond.
