I am very surprised and disappointed to read a review such as this, especially when it was our great assistant manager who personally checked back on your table a few times, only to be told everything was fine, i can never understand why someone wouldn't...More
I rarely review restaurants these days because we don't eat out much unless we are on holiday. Overall, the experience was good. My only real complaint was the lack of a wine list, which meant we ended up paying an expectedly large amount for 4...glasses of wine. The food was good, nearly excellent, and only missing that mark by small faults. The pizza base was doughy. It just needed a little longer cooking. Everything else was delicious and filling, but some dishes lacked refinement given the price. The fish and chips were great, especially the house made chip shop curry sauce. 😘 The halloumi starter tastes fabulous, but it was just lumped in a shallow dish with no garnish. I know this is picky, but I'm not complaining so much as suggesting improvement. The service was good and I am sad that it wasn't busier because it is one of the better places to eat in the area. Having spent two weeks in Looe, Cornwall this September, I can see what they are aspiring to be. They just aren't quite hitting the same levels. Don't not go because of this review, you will have good food, just ask about the drinks prices. 😉More
Hi artisanbaker1, It's great to hear you found the food delicious & the service good. Firstly I would like to mention we have a superb, extensive wine & Coravin list, usually this is on the table or brought over by a member of staff, if...More

Very well appointed venue - a cross between a Gastropub and restaurant. Service was excellent - attentive but not intrusive. As for the food the highlights of what we had were the spiced cod scotch egg which was absolutely fantastic (nice and spicy mayo with...it) and the Derbyshire pie. I suppose the only thing I might quibble would be that the sides portions could be a bit bigger but that doesn’t detract from a lovely relaxed evening. Would go there regularly if we lived a bit closer.More
Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you had a lovely relaxed evening with us- our spiced scotch cotch egg is certainly a firm favourite. Hopefully if you are in the area again you will visit again. Best wishes Chris
Today we had the most wonderful afternoon at the Tickledtrout in Barlow. We hired the private dining room upstairs to celebrate our wedding. The service has been second to none, and everyone commented on how wonderful the food was. Thank you to all the staff,...and the chefs for a great experience. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.More

I decided to book here on a fellow chefs recommendation. I think Chesterfield is becoming one of the best places to eat and tickled trout shows why on every level. Great welcome, didn't feel out of place. Prompt service and menu was well laid out....We went for scotch egg starter and halloumi starter. Both excellent. For mains the truffle chicken and special sea bream, again both perfectly cooked and very tasty. Service throughout was very good, never had to get attention of anyone as the girls were always around. We was in and out in 70 mins.. had a expresso too. We were told about service charge which didn't bother us.. More on the expensive side, but if you want great food and service, worth every penny. We will be returning soon. Thank youMore
First time visitors after hearing a good few things about this place Initial thoughts as we walked in was a nice clean are and restaurant, decent sized tables, chairs could do with a clean Before I continue I’ll say that I do understand the area...of the place it’s situated in, however… You cannot charge £8.95 for a quarter skillet of chorizo and humous and 2 tiny pieces of bread, it’s scandalous, and simply a rip off. The pea and ham soup my friend couldn’t finish as it tasted so bad, so I tried it and had 1 mouthful and couldn’t eat anymore of it (it takes a lot for me not to eat something) The mains came and was ok, however I wouldn’t even say it was lukewarm, all mains were cold. The only thing that came hot was the pigs in blankets Moving on to the sides - £5.95 for 4 florets of cauli cheese? Come on, £2 for extra gravy? Its comical Head chef must be living in GP heaven, as a whole it all seemed a tad overpriced for what you got and not served hot. Basics in a kitchen. had better carvery’s We aren’t ones to make a fuss on check back, the waitresses were nice and service was ok, we aren’t ones to ask for items taken off of the bill etc but definitely won’t be returning.More

We booked our lunch for 1pm on Sunday 22nd September. We arrived at 1pm and were shown to our seats near the clock at Table no.3. As our table was a good arms length away from our seat, and we were on a bench seat...my son and myself decided to pull the heavy table nearer to us. I didn't expect furniture removal was part of a meal these days. Anyway sooon a waitress served us with drinks and took our meal order. We then seemingly went invisible. The people at the next table, who came after us, were served, and had virtually finished their meal, and still we remained invisible, other people were also being served. We were still invisible. About 40 minutes passed and I called over a waitress. She said they were very busy and that the people next to us had just ordered a main meal. But we didn't argue, and mention others who had arrived later, and also been served well before us. Eventually, we were served a starter at 1.50pm. The main meal came and my wife remarked that her Roast Beef was not very warm. I had the Roast Pork and included on my plate was the most liquid mashed potato I have ever seen, it looked like some form of sauce. The Pork was not as tender as it should be, and the Bowl of Roasts was a misnomer, not only tiny, a Very Small Bowl would be a better description, and it contained what appeared to be scrapings from the bottom of a roast pan and broken potatoes. The green vegetables were properly cooked. The gravy was very heavily salted. So after our experience we decided....Not to stay for the sweet course. I'm afraid your standards are just not good enough. Finally: How can you justify charging £4.50 for a glass of still water? Yes it had ice in it, but it was water. LPMore
