Amazing!!! We are a family of 5 including 3 teenagers. We all loved everything that we tried at Bao Bei - total of 10 different items off the menu ranging from appetizers to desserts. The flavors, presentation and combinations for every dish were so unique and delicious. The service was very attentive and personable. A must try!

We ate dinner at Bao Bei during a recent trip to Vancouver because we wanted to eat in Chinatown at least once. Bao Bei is far from being your typical Chinese food, or what we westerners call Chinese food, and this was a good thing as the food here was not heavy or oily at all. I'm not sure how... More

I've been frequenting this establishment for more than 5 years, dining here no less than 4-5 times per year. The consistency is impressive. The quality is undeniable. The room is unique. The service is beyond first rate. The fact that they have little employee turnover is a testament to their community commitment. This is modern Chinese at its best. Tannis... More

Enjoyed this restaurant on a Wednesday evening with my husband. We were seated promptly and the waitress explained the menu and suggested an appropriate amount of food to order which was perfect. Food came at a nice pace and we never felt rushed or waiting. Food was fresh and had lovely flavours. The only downside was that they had little... More

This was definitely the hip place to eat; people kept coming in for dinner on a Wednesday night. We enjoyed several small plates of dumplings, noodles, sticky rice cakes and octopus- yummy.

My husband and I went to Bao Bei for dinner for the second time last weekend. We arrived at 11:00 pm and the kitchen was still open ( which is not so common in Vancouver). We were lucky to get the only free table. We enjoyed Bao Bei as much as the first time that we tried it. The atmosphere... More

It was an opportunity to celebrate my visiting 92 yr. old father from Hawaii with my 5 sons and their friends who have become part of our ohana (extended family).....simply put "my boys". To my surprise the kids set up when and where to eat, and it was a delight from the get go. We occupied the largest table in... More

The place is not big, the menu is not much bigger, but the variety and quality are excellent. Interesting range of cocktails to get you started.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
