Years ago, before the swamping of Vancouver by off-shore foreign capital, if you went to a Chinese restaurant and there were Chinese clientele, you were assured of an authentic experience. Today all that has changed, and if you enter a Chinese restaurant that has a unique market approach appealing to the local millennials then you most likely are not in... More

Easy walk from downtown but parking nearby. We didn't book but stayed at the bar and it was perfect for just the 2 of us. Great service, welcoming and gorgeous food in a very nice setting. The calamari salad, the tofu and the Chinese donughts were to die for, perfectly done and spiced. Drinks were great.

even though on the trendy side, this restaurant remain a favorite. the bill will go up fast because the gourmandise takes over. not the most confortable I would say but that is a minor deception. the attraction is in the plates and i was never disapointed in 6 years. attentive service too. the eggplant appetizer is brilliant !

Awesome modern Asian fusion with special dishes that tasted amazing. We ordered the squid salad, flatbread (with meat) and tofu on humus dish! All tasted delicious and not a scrap was left on our plate! Atmosphere was inviting & service was friendly. Definitely recommended for your visit out to Chinatown!!!

The place is pretty busy, so you should show up quite early before the big run. The food is amazing, a little pricey but it's definitely worth it! The staff is super friendly. It's a place I'd recommend!

Beautiful dining room in Chinatown that offers a modern take on traditional Chinese dishes. The food is terrific with a lamb shao bing that I rank among the very best things that I've ever, and I mean ever, put in my mouth. The fried rice is tasty and the mantou is nearly perfect. "Almost" and "nearly" are the words that... More

I've been wanting to go to Bao Bei after seeing it on Munchies. I love the concept and I think more places like this should be opening up. It definitely has a hipster vibe which makes it trendy. We were a group of 10 and went for the $50 tasting menu, plus cocktails. The food was okay, but it didn't... More

Make sure to indulge in the cocktail list, for best experience sit at the bar and let the bartender take the reins on that front. Dumplings are unreal, as is the lamb flatbread (spicy) and Bao!

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
