This tiny gem in Gastown was a real find. The Tapas was excellent and reasonably priced ($8-$15). I highly recommend the Tomato Tart (trust me on this) and the Spicy Prawns. The only downside to this place is the size. Only a couple tables and a bar. But if you want original food you can share at an affordable price,... More

Loved The Sardine Can! We were visiting from Florida and preferred to eat off the tourist track. Wonderful tapas and excellent casual service. We only waited about 20 minutes and walked around charming gastown while we waited for a call for our table. Loved the mushrooms and sardine toast. Prices for food and wine were very reasonable.

I had been meaning to try this place for a while, since it's just around the corner from my office, and I'm so happy I finally did! Sardine Can is a tiny little gem in the heart of Gastown but don't let it's sardine can size deter you. The food was reasonably priced and every dish was near perfection. We... More

It is a Spanish Tapas bar, but it's like saying burger king is burger restaurant. Not one item we ordered was fresh, bread was stale as it most likely sat over night. Glasses of wine (less than 4oz, my father had less than 3oz) was undrinkable as the bottle was definitely left open for more than a day. It might... More

Four woman looking for a good restaurant in gas town Vancouver - stumbled upon this great tapas bar. Great service - friendly staff ( only three could fit behind the bar) had a great time and food very delicious.

Found Sardine Can on Trip Adviser looking for a good tapas restaurant in Vancouver and it's well worth its ratings. Gastown is fun in any case and this restaurant illustrates why. A very nice range of tapas - sit at the bar and watch the chefs cook in their tiny space if you wish - and truly friendly professional service.... More

What a neat spot - the Sardine Can, very casual, sharing plates, tapas and wines. Eat at the short bar in front of the chef or at high tables, it's a fun experience with tasty dishes and a great, casual ambiance. Go once and you'll come back again!

This small tapas place is located at the end of Gastown, which is on its own a nice place in the city to visit. My friend and I went for lunch, arriving there almost right after they opened, we read in TA it fills up quickly; when we left it was packed, I think there was only a spot available,... More

My sister and I grazed for two hours in this tiny Gastown eatery; enjoying the food and ambiance. We started with red wine, served casually in juice glasses - just like I had experienced in homey cafes in Italy. Our first sharing plate was crusty bread with chickpea spread, spicy almonds and tangy olives. This was followed closely by a... More

Exactly what I thought a Spanish tapas bar should be, small plates, many selections, and great flavors. Tried red wine with orange soda for the first time and it was very good.

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
