If it wasn't for the groupon deal, I don't think I would have ever gone to this place. We waited in the lounge for like 20 minutes before they seated us and it wasn't even very busy. The quality of the food was ok, but there just wasn't very much of it. 1/2 a lobster tail is ok, but 1/2... More

Have been coming to this place for a while but 1st time commenting. The groupon deal is a good one as it is a "rare" deal that is actually based on menu items - not a marked-up item then discounted. The place is busy all the time and reservations are a must. The food is fresh and cooked right, mostly.... More

We had a Groupon for this restaurant so the value was OK for us. It would not have been so good at full price. First of all, I had expected more of a traditional Japanese Teppanyaki, but found the food to be more of a fusion, tending toward Chinese. No sunomono salad which I love, no teriyaki sauces on any... We came on a set menu Groupon and enjoyed our meal, but I would have been sorry if we had paid full price. You sit in groups around the grill and the chef cooks in front of you, keeping it moving very quickly. There is expertise, but no flair. I felt the food was somewhat lacking in flavour - hot... Really great welcome at Gyu, and it was a fun way to eat. The chef was hilarious and friendly as well as skilful, and we had a brilliant night. The communal tables are fun, as you can watch strangers' reactions to what's going on, and take inspiration from their menu choices!

Its a Chinese, Japanese & Korean fusion type of grilled seafood, meat, vegetable etc. The chef grilled your order in front of you. Ask for Chef Martin. He is very good. The food is very fresh. Must make reservation. They have rooms but you must spend at least $400. We have a group of 7 and lucky that they gave... More

First - this restaurant is on Alberni rather than Burrard. We came here once and were so impressed with the food and service that we were going to introduce my sister to the restaurant. She's never been here. Based on our first visit, I would have given the restaurant 4 points. On our second visit - the visit we were... More

I went here with a friend for dinner using a Groupon coupon. The food was great and the service was excellent. Not entertaining like the chef's at Kobe, but still great chefs. Will be back!

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
