My husband and I walked many many blocks from our hotel to try to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. They were very busy but they were open late so we were seated right away when we came at around 9:30pm. Eating here is not like dining at a regular sushi place we always do and that's why I... More

Had dinner at Kingyo on New Year's Eve. Must thank my wife for finding the place and making the reservation. An early dinner that with a few drinks lasted a couple hours. We loved the: raw takowasabi, fresh sashimi salad, yellowtail sashimi, kani meshi, and fried chicken dish (forget name). The waiter was pleasant and did her best, notwithstanding light... More

This busy restaurant drew me into it's warm exterior to look at the lunch menu. The efficiency of the wait staff impressed me and once seated I decided to order the chefs choice steak bowl. The presentation of a tabletop element then delivery of my bowl cooked to the exact specifications of my very helpful waiter Kouki made this experience... More

This was recommended by my favorite shusi restaurant in North Vancouver.....they said it was good and they were right. At lunch....get there early as it gets busy fast. (Opens at 11:30) They have a great daily bento box but they only have 10 and I was lucky to get one and it was great..can't wait to try dinner there.

A great restaurant with a lively atmosphere. When I went it was really busy being so close to Christmas and a blizzard in town but the staff served me very quickly and the food I had was amazing. I'd recommend the Kobe beef that was not only tasty but also fun to cook on your own hot stone. The sushi... More

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I went here because it was highly recommended by a local in Vancouver. This place was absolutely amazing! FOOD: We ordered the sashimi platter and blue fin tuna sashimi. The fish was fresh and tasty. But the true highlight of our meal was the blue fin tuna sashimi that just melts in your mouth. It was... More

Housed in a rustic store front on Denman. This is a lively authentic stop for sushi, noodle bowels and many other inventive selections. There is enough variety to satisfy carnivores and vegetarians alike. Service is always with a smile. I do wish they had a better wine selection. This is a common issue in Japanese restaurants, a few extra thoughtful... More

Had to wait about 30 min on a Saturday at 8pm. Finally seated at 8:30pm and was served by a jolly Japanese girl (most of the staff appeared to be from Japan). Ordered CAD$100 in food and drink for 2 (just 1 drink each), and while we were generally pleased with the food quality, we've had better, e.g. the lotus... More

Kingyo was delightful for lunch. The staff were friendly, restaurant was beautiful, and my sashimi bowl was super. Also loved their refreshing homemade ginger ale. Excellent choice!

I have always had such great meals but the last one was a little disappointing. Maybe it was just the combination of what we ordered. The service is always so friendly and the room is beautiful. They have a great sake list and its always a fun place to be. Definitely worth a try and I am definitely going to... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
