If time and budget allows, I would highly recommend afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress! Service is impeccable, the treats are filling, and everything is very fresh. The china and serving dishes are especially beautifully. You'll be taking loads of photos, I'm sure!

he view from the front windows in the lobby/tea room are indeed spectacular as is the ambience in the room; however, I say tour the hotel and have your refreshments somewhere less overpriced and perhaps with something appetizing. The dried up little sandwiches leave a lot to be desired and I daresay unpalatable, you get about four finger sandwiches with... More

We came for tea on my birthday and it was fabulous. We've been to the Banff Springs and once to the Fairmont Vancouver, and all are similar. The decor makes you feel like you are in a castle in the 1800's and the service was excellent. We were seated right away and we all got the Empress tea which came... More

The Hotel & the service was impeccable and an overall lovely experience. The reason for the rating and the title was for the afternoon tea itself. It is supposed to be an authentic afternoon tea, and the most important part of that was far from authentic. The clotted cream is the quintessentially British part of the afternoon tea, and the... The woodwork and marble and carpets and chandeliers and... all breathtaking! Add in a skilled pianist from 2-3 and the atmosphere was perfect, overlooking the inner harbor. The food was good, portions dainty. An experience more than a meal.

Pricey, but worth it. We've been there three times and never leave disappointed. The berries and cream to start are great, the scones are delicious, the finger sandwiches are delicious as well. The service is impeccable. The beatiful live piano music makes it a great atmosphere. Definitely the best tea place in Victoria.
