We were celebrating a son and daughter-in-law engagement and we were so thrilled that Beckta delivered exactly what we became enamored with when my husband and I got engaged and were married there. Everything was on point, from the reception to accommodating us in the...bar area and eventually our table. They have a seasonal menu but when we were there they had a wonderful octopus appetizer and brussels sprouts dish that totally rocked. We had the beef dish which was amazing as usual. Love Beckta!More

Another delicious meal at Beckta last night. I recommend this restaurant without caveats. I especially wanted to thank Beckta for carrying Oddbird so that we could have a bottle of non-alcoholic wine with our companions without feeling awkward. And it was a delicious drink. Bravo...for leading the way.More

A 4-minute walk from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, this classy restaurant in a vintage house seats the diners in a number of stunning rooms. Each space has just a few tables---a perfect layout to keep political opponents apart in a city with a lot of...imagined intrigue. The simple $$$$-menu covers all European bases. As a side, the scones / British buttermilk biscuits were flawless. The starters included marinated mussels in a lemon vinaigrette, steak tartare with Dijon mustard and brandy, and soft shell crab. All three were excellent but not "the best ever". The standout in the dinner was the Key lime cake dessert. But above all, we enjoyed the stylish atmosphere. The fact that there was no music allowed us to have proper conversations across a table of ten. Definitely a keeper.More

It was a beautiful evening, the food was succulent, especially the magret was well prepared and balanced with assorted vegetables. Our waiter was attentive to our needs and made great suggestions for our meals

Thank you for your giving a high -end service. You see, I was phoning from abroad and English isn’t my native language, so I'm kinda convinced that my stomach was gripped in horror. Anyway, a manager didn’t let me getting off the track and gave...me all the answers I bothered about. A massive thanks for taking charge for my birthday party organization. I'm vibing with that for you nailed it being bewildered and it's worth any cost. To wrap this up with a bow I’m dying to show up in your restaurant to try your local specialty.More

My husband and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary in Ottawa. We decided that we would treat ourselves and visit Beckta, as it’s known for its fine dining food and wines. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing visit as it took 3 hours for...us to get our 5 course blind tasting. The food itself was good, however, it took far too long to receive and we didn’t experience the actual tasting with wine as it took too long. It was very discouraging and ended our evening on a bad note.More

We had a very good experience here. Although the menu is small, we found some interesting and imaginative dishes. The beef tartare was superb, although I prefer toast rather than potato chips with it. The quail was lovely, as was the branzino. The soft shell...crab was fun but the rice dumplings were gummy and tasteless- the low point of the meal. Dessert was a highlight- truly a lovely dish. Service was professional and friendly. A great experience overall!More

From start to finish this experience was flawless! Nothing was too much trouble & the food out of this world. Kim made us cocktails when we arrived which were the best! Kim’s Gone Bananas has to be my absolute favourite of this trip, she knows...how to add the right measures! We then opted for the tasting menu & wine pairing. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. All our courses were explained in detail, the wine was excellent & all in sync with our courses. We got a tour upstairs from the other lovely lady (I’m sorry I can’t remember her name) she explained about the history of this fabulous building. Has to be the best experience, service & food we have had throughout Canada. Thank you so very much for making a memorable dining experience for us.More

I took my wife here to celebrate her birthday. It was our first time at Beckta, and it will not be our last. From the time we were seated until I payed our bill, we were treated like valued customers. The experience was wonderful. We...opted for the blind tasting menu which was very fine. My wife also got the wine pairing option. We both have a few food allergies which the staff made sure avoid in our dishes. There was not one that we did not like. We will definitely return. Thank you Beckta.More

We went based the numerous TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. We had the biscuit and soft shell crab appetizers, and then the Cornish game hen and the beef strip loin. All were nicely prepared as were cocktails. Service is experienced and competent. My only...suggestion to other patrons is to check the menu before going since some people will find the choices to be limited. When we went there were 5 appetizers and 4 mains on the menu. All in all, a top notch choice.More

Beckta, in a word: disappointing. I came here with my wife on August 7th for our first wedding anniversary. One might think that a restaurant with so many awards on its walls would be a good choice, and one would be wrong. Our order: We...ordered community biscuits, an apple and endive salad, soft shell crab, the steak and the quail. The atmosphere: This restaurant is very warm, uncomfortably warm, and the water they served is room temperature and not refilled often given the number of times the waiter came to look at us. I felt uncomfortable. Everything else was otherwise unremarkable except for the bathroom, it was gross. The food: We began our meal with the community biscuits, one of them was completely raw in the center the other was just barely edible which I and my pregnant wife shared while we waited for the waiter to return. Upon being informed that the biscuit was raw he said he would replace it. After a long wait, and growing appetites, the waiter returned with two more biscuits which were both raw. At this point we were informed by the waiter that the kitchen follows a recipe and have a specific formula for baking the biscuits, an apology would have been sufficient instead of an excuse. Again he took them away, this time returning a little more quickly with the salad which my wife had ordered. So I am now sitting there while my starving, pregnant, wife eats and feels guilty because I have nothing.  My wife described the salad as good enough but was missing something to make it really good. After another awkward amount of time after the salad was finished and we waited for our main course. I received my steak, it was well cooked but the seasoning was lacking. It was served on a bed of green beans which I would describe as the kind you get from a grocery store that are precut in a frozen bag. This was surrounded by 3 large blobs of pimento cheese with some sparse chimichurri drizzled on top which made for an unavoidable and unfortunate pairing for my meat and beans. There were no green tomatoes on my plate as described in the menu. The corn on the cob was the star of the dish, delicious although awkward to eat in a fine dining setting. At this point we were served our third round of community biscuits which, finally, were fully cooked. It looked as though the kitchen staff had already torn them open to see if they were fully cooked. I might recommend that they test it with a wooden toothpick next time. My wife received her soft shell crab, the crab itself was bland and the sauce was very spicy. This did not agree with her palate. My wife was not offered a menu to decide on a new dish when she informed the waiter that she regretted her selection. Upon the suggestion of the waiter she changed her dish to the quail. Which my wife described as adequate. One thing however, struck us both when it came to the presentation of the quail. It is served with fried wild rice, which my wife was not aware of. For those of you that don't know, fried wild rice looks very similar to dried mealworms. I found the menu online to reassure her that she was not in fact being served insects, although she felt the presentation was unappetizing. Upon finishing our food we promptly left as I did not want to be disappointed by their desert offerings as well. Overall impressions: This was a very poor show, I really expected more and I am dissatisfied with the experience. I took my wife here for our first wedding anniversary and I regret it. The food was mediocre, the timing on the arrival of dishes was awkward, it's too hot in the dining room (the water didn't even have ice). I included that it was our first wedding anniversary in our reservation and the only person to say anything was our hostess when she checked us in. I don't expect fanfare or anything but I think as a point of hospitality it would be good to congratulate your guests or thank them for choosing your place of business for such an important occasion. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.More
