There's more "irrashaimase" (welcome) shouting at this izakaya than any izakaya I've been to in Japan (and I've been to a lot). They also shout with every order, when people leave and... well at every other opportunity too so it gets pretty noisy. Its not necessarily bad and you'll either laugh that its just so over the top or find... More

We have been here few times before it got renamed. I am not sure if it is because of the name change (management change as well?) The atmosphere and food quality are not as good as before. The service is also quite slow this time.

After having to deal with crappy Japanese food in Warsaw, Poland, it was very refreshing to have real Japanese food. I had to go to Toronto! I finished m acting class and I was craving a late supper, and I found this place on my way home. This place is great, the prices are affordable and the staff are very... More

This was a great place to go with a group of friends. The staff are lively and animated. It is NOT the place to go if you want to have a good conversation though because it is very loud. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience though. NOTE: If you don't want to draw attention to yourself don't order... More

Excellent sushi and tapas restaurant. They made me a mixed sashimi platter, even though not on the menu. A dessert of bananas tempura was served with chocolate sauce and coconut ice cream. Prices were reasonable and service and staff were enthusiastic and vocal, with a chorus of greetings and when dishes were ready.

We were headed to another restaurant, but it was closed. We had passed by here earlier, and when we were all wondering where to go, I suggested we go back here. We were behind a couple who walked in first, and when I heard the loud cheering, I pushed everyone back. She: What are you doing? Me: Just wait....and watch... More

I don't have another Japanese place to compare to but if you are looking for good Japanese food, service and drinks then this is definitely the place. It's a Japanese-tapas kind of feeling they've got going so small dishes of different sort of food. For a person that's spent some time in Japan, this place kind of took me back.... More

In Toronto, to find such authentic Japanese noodle place is just a bless. This was my third time and as always, it was satisfying experience.

The place was packed on a Saturday night and couldn't make it in, went back on Sunday and was able to get a seat. The place is fun, loud and lively. The staff was young, loud and friendly. But was disappointed with the food, it was not refined, most of the dishes tasted like your standard fun bar food like... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
