Love the vibe in this place, so alive while foods are very authentic. We enjoyed their bamboo sake and yummy tapas. They open until around 11:30 pm. Great place to be when you are in town. Ganbei!!

We had a fabulous meal here on the weekend. Nice variety of plates. The black cod and bimibop were highlights for sure. Fun atmosphere. Would be great with a group of friends. Plates are for sharing. We were two adults and one child and had 7 items plus dessert.

Kinka Izakaya was a pleasant surprise. I was not expecting a good izakaya and Japanese tapas restaurant in Toronto, but this place proved me wrong. Kinka Izakaya offers a good variety of drinks, small plates, and some unique dishes. Waits can sometimes take a while because of its popularity, but with the lack of good Japanese food in the area,... More

Great Sake. We ordered the House brand Sake which is imported from Japan. Great Izakaya (Japanese Tapas). Great dining experience. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try something a little different. Don't worry yelling at customers is a Japanese customary greeting.

Went for a birthday and this place was an absolute blast. Bustling for our entire stay, the atmosphere was fun and the staff were all great. Food was awesome comfort style dishes and we sat at the bar so we could see everything get made. If you're looking for a fun night out in Toronto, give Kinka a whirl. We... More

We t to this restaurant based on a friends recommendation. At arrival be prepared to be WELCOME very laud! Always a very relaxed and friendly environment. Most of clients are young and are looking for a good and relaxed moment. Food? What can I say if it is supposed to be a Japanese restaurant? Excellent food, attentive service and what... More

There's more "irrashaimase" (welcome) shouting at this izakaya than any izakaya I've been to in Japan (and I've been to a lot). They also shout with every order, when people leave and... well at every other opportunity too so it gets pretty noisy. Its not necessarily bad and you'll either laugh that its just so over the top or find... More

We have been here few times before it got renamed. I am not sure if it is because of the name change (management change as well?) The atmosphere and food quality are not as good as before. The service is also quite slow this time.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
