We went as a group of 24 for a wine club dinner. We had a fixed menu and wines so I can not comment about the available selection. The food was interesting and very tasty: hors d’oeuvres of grilled shrimp in lemon, garlic and olive oil; and double smoked bacon and tomato on baguette, Atlantic Salmon Gravlax, Roasted Duck Breast... We keep returning to Chris Boland's place, as much for the great bistro-style food as it's usually not noisy – you can still HEAR YOURSELF TALK ;)

Made a reservation at Boland's tonight through its OpenTable service - was glad to do this as most of my other favourites were closed for the New Year's extra holiday Monday. Big mistake. Boland's *was* closed but they'd forgotten to adjust their OpenTable settings, so it gave me a confirmed reservation (with emailed see-you-at-seven confirmation). A cab ride later, I... More

Great menu well chosen and wonderfully presented for our 50th anniversary. Across the miles CHRIS Boland was easy to work with. Yummy shrimp appetizers, too, along with 5* carrot soup and trout with pickled daicon. Thanks to Pat and Barry for gifting us champagne! We had a super afternoon

We arranged for a group of high school friends from 45 years ago to get together in the private dining room in the back of the restaurant. The service was fabulous, the wines were delightfully paired with the meals and the food was great! The menu is relatively small - but the attention to detail, presentation and foods is extensive! I... More

The Toronto Camera Club held their holiday dinner last evening at Bolland's and the experience was impressive! It's the perfect place to rent the entire restaurant - the ambience was warm and inviting and although the space initially was one we had not considered for such a crowd, we fit comfortably at the tables leaving the spacious back room for... The service was a bit erratic, but there was nothing wrong with the meal. I had the sun-dried tomato soup and the slow-cooked veal cheeks. Both were very good. The other three members of our party also enjoyed their meals. The ambience is agreeable. The wine is pricey, but on the whole this is a very good place for a... More

We live near Boland's but there are so many great restaurants in Davisville Village that we hadn't been her in years. I took a girlfriend recently and can say it was absolutely the best meal out that I have had in a long time!!! I had the trout, she had the chicken. both were excellent.

I took my boyfriend out for our second date & he was so impressed we went back again the following Friday. I had beet salad with goat cheese & oranges . For my main course I had trout which was so delicate & flavorful that it melted in your mouth. For dessert I had a warm brownie with vanilla ice... More

Staying in North End

Neighbourhood Profile
North End
The North End is a nucleus of specialty food restaurants and shops, especially around its Mount Pleasant Village area. Frequented by antiquers for its numerous collectable shops, furniture spots, and oddity stores, the North End is a maverick of the quaint and quality. Vintage toy stores, accessory shops, and cinemas welcome perusers to step back in time, while the wide pedestrian squares and the large medical and business community inject it with a dose of modernity. With numerous cafes and Toronto's greatest number of independent booksellers, it isn't uncommon to see folks in this area at their leisure, reading outdoors and in eateries, and taking life a bit more slowly – even if it's only during their lunch break.
