Playa Cabana is very unassuming when you pull up. I looked twice when I arrived as it hardly looks open. You find your way in to a compact, very cozy restaurant. The smell coming from the kitchen just catches you...Wow!!! The Guac is the best I've had. Off the charts good! The tortilla chips and guac is a perfect starter... More

SO fun, so authentic. best guac period! This restaurant chain has more locations, and this original location still keeps up with great food all the time!

I was super excited about this restaurant, what a disappointment! I booked 1 month in advance for myself and my husband for my birthday. being gluten intolerant, it's difficult to find an array of food at many restaurants that I can choose from, so I was really excited about the menu here, too bad we never got to eat anything!... Recently visited Playa Cabana for dinner with a significant other. We started with the ceviche and chorizo. The ceviche was wonderful. The chorizo was covered with some sort of barbecue sauce and it was a bit much. The spice in combination with all the sauce really took away from the natural flavour of the meat. For our entrees I had... More

A nice spot for a good bite. Service is always reliable at this location. When you have a craving for Mexican cuisine it is a terrific local spot!

This place is a hidden gem in the middle of a residential area near Casa Loma. We did our research and decided to give this place a try and we certainly were not disappointed. The food was beyond tasty and the prices were very reasonable. We had the chips and salsa, fish taco and short rib tacos. I can honestly... More

Five of us went out for dinner at Playa Cabana last night. The food is wonderful, fresh and original. The wait staff aimed to please. We sat outside as inside it was just too noisy. I'm celiac and they were extremely accommodating. Everything you order is wonderful except do not order the sangria. One pitcher is $60.00 and is nothing... More

Great basic appetizers, drinks Few of the main courses, Carne Assada for example, seemed to Toronto versions and less authentic - at least quite different from the northern Mexican versions of the dish. Tres Leche cake fantastic! Service, ambience fun, not too formal

When my cousin said we were going around the corner to a Mexican place I had no expectations. It was hot outside so we opted to sit inside. From the moment we sat down at the bar which had a rustic appeal, we were warmly welcomed. Menus appeared and drink orders taken. The seviche was flavorful; not just fish in... More

Love Playa! The best part is when you have a craving for some braise beef tacos, it will always taste like the first time! So consistent, which I really appreciate. I feel you get a lot of bang for your buck. Which their seating arrangement was more spacious but a little communal eating never hurts anyone.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
