Will be back soon to enjoy again. We love experiencing "owner operated" establishments, everything is always better. We have visited before and due to how we were treated by the ownership we made sure to visit again with more friends. Keep it up folks, love what you are offering.

In terms of food I love exotic experiences. Pero's restaurant is one of my best culinary experiences in the last few years! We were invited to the restaurant by my Eritrean friend and it was an excellent choice. I enjoined tasting the original injera and all the exotic dishes made of split peas. The coffee drinking experience is one of... More

I was looking for something different so I thought since the previous reviews were excellent, I'd try it. Well.............The décor was nice. The servers and cook were very nice. They seemed very anxious to please which was nice but the food was just mediocre. Not bad. Not great. Portion size was just so so. Tons of Ethiopian bread made from... More

Hi Mr. Pero, You actually nailed it with your restaurant. Your charm made it a special evening for us. The Okra was fantastic and the wine, an African one absolutely wonderful. We discussed your menu and I would love to come back and eat all the changes you are about to make in the menu. Highly recommended!

Great friendly service. Very interesting favors. Tried the combo platter just to get my bearings and was not disappointed. Worth a try.

Clean restaurant, attentive service & tasty food. The vegetarian platter & beef tibs were excellent. I'm normally not a huge fan of lamb, however the cha-cha was wonderfully seasoned. My habesha relatives said the kitfo tasted like home & got a second order to go. Can't wait to come back!

I always associate Ethiopia and Eritrea with hunger, but Addis Abba is actually quite a sophisticated city. The owner of this restaurant is a transplant from Addis Abba and brings a lot of atmosphere into the restaurant decorations and the menu. It takes a little explanation, but the staff are extremely helpful and the food experience was definitely worthwhile. If... More

If you are looking for a neat, unforgettable birthday celebration, this is the place! I took my young adult daughter to this restaurant to celebrate her birthday. The owner and waitress of this restaurant are very friendly, and helpful for recommending the dishes. My favorite dish is the dinner platter. We also had coffee ceremony. The highlight is after dinner,... More

Made reservation for a Saturday night. No waiting at the door line-up. Could have been our timing as it did get very busy. Immediately seated in our seats once we arrived. Soon after, waitress waves the traditional, smoking Ethiopian coffee beans over our table. Wonderful! Our anticipation grows. Comfortably dimly lit. Playful addition were the roaring fires on several tv... More

Description
Pero Restaurant is as rich and diverse as Eastern African culture. The spectrum Pero Restaurant cuisine can be said to lie between two dietary extremes: vegetarianism and carnivorism. The essence of good Eastern African cooking revolves around the appropriate use of aromatic spices. The skill lies in subtle blending of a variety of spices to enhance, rather than overwhelm the basic flavour of a particular dish. Pero food relies on the spices in which it is cooked, just as Japanese Sushi relies on the freshness of the meat, and Chinese food relies on the various sauces to impart the right flavour and taste. It is interesting to see an Eastern African chef at work with a palette of spices, gratuitously sprinkling these powders in exact pinches into the dish in front of him. It is these complexities of regional food in Eastern Africa that make it such a fascinating experience.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
