We arrived about 8:45 on a Wednesday evening and other than ourselves there was one other couple in the restaurant. It was nice not feeling like a tourist and we got seen to right away. The servers were brilliantly friendly which made up for the couple of times they came back to clarify our drinks order. The salad to start... More

This restaurant is right near St. Michael's hospital and provides a lovely break if one is dealing with medical issues. It is on Richmond Street, right down a short block from the hospital. We were in between appointments at the eye clinic, and wanting something different than the hospital cafeteria or Mc Donald's, but we didn't have a lot of... More

It was an amazing experience, the restaurant was closed for our private dinner ... . it was a social enterprise at its best ... truly great food and wine ... but mainly the pride of the staff recently trained .. some of the Toronto's most vulnerable ... now proudly serving the Federal and Provincial Ministers responsible for poverty and social... I enjoyed my final meal in Toronto at the AMAZING Hawthorne restaurant. Not only was it fantastically close to my hotel but the three course meal I had was to die for. Their staff was the highlight of my trip, I had just gotten out of the biggest job interview of my life and the two waiters Derrick (spelling may... More

I was between appointments at St. Mike's and noticed the sandwich board on the corner of Queen and Victoria so sauntered down to this Richmond St. eatery for breakfast. Not knowing it was a not-for-profit, training restaurant, it took me a while to understand that the wait person had rudimentary English skills and was not well versed in the coffee... More

Was invited to a private dinner here. The servers were very pleasant and attentive. The food was very good and the presentation of the food very artistic. The carbonara was excellent. The restaurant is small with lots of hard surfaces and an open kitchen concept which makes it a little noisy.

The food was amazing, delicious, and presented beautifully. Happily surprised by this tiny little gem. Best of all, they employ people who need the job to help develop their hospitality skills. My only complaint is our bill took a while to settle

Not because this is an amazing farm to table restaurant sourcing local ingredients, nor because it is a social enterprise providing job training and opportunities but because it was the most delicious meal I've ever had in Toronto! I would recommend this to anyone for any occasion, go forth and eat good food that does good in return! Yum!

But omg how long should you wait to get it. We arrived at 630 pm thinking we would be out by 745 to 800pm. Nope... 8pm comes and we are still waiting for enters. It's not like the place was super busy either. To be fair the food was good. Sorry - go at your own risk.

I went to this restaurant for lunch as part of Summerlicious 2016. The interior is nice and the place is small. For appetizers, we ordered the egg roll and soup. Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
