After all these years fresh fish has never been better than at chiado! The fillet of grouper was incredibly tender, moist and filled with such subtle flavour. The fish seems like it was pulled out of the ocean today!! The whole seabass was skillfully deboned by our waiter was equally soft and delicious. All of this was washed down by... More

Charming restaurant, with all Portuguese cuisine traditional menu available for your culinary travel to Lisbon. The staff is super friendly and super verse in their wines and menu pairings. Seafood is amazing and the Parabens cake decoration and sing along by our amazing waiter made the birthday occasion even better!

Really enjoyed our visit here. We went to a number of "high end" restaurants while in Toronto, and chose Chaido as a "lower key" restaurant - boy were we surprised. Everything was outstanding - the service was impeccable, food was delicious and prepared amazingly. They had a number of authentic dishes, including many fresh fish options flown in that day;... I've dined here for well over 25 years, never often enough. It's like going home again if your home had perfect wait staff and a cook who knew what to do with fresh, exotic fish and seafood. Rich fascinating Portuguese wine list. Must go back soon and have the "humble" acorda; best homely, luxurious seafood comfort food.

We visited with our children for our anniversary. The service was very good and the appetizers were excellent, particularly the toasted goat cheese and the quail. The rack of lamb for the mains was pretty good, but not spectacular. Ironically, it's known for its seafood, so we'll have to try that next time. If you're taking kids, make sure they... More

The food, the service, the sense of history, the setting: this place deserves it's place at the top of the list of Toronto's best restaurants. I love Portuguese food, seafood driven, fresh, healthy, delicious, hearty and straightforward. Chiado manages to keep the celebrate and elevate without making the food fussy. The setting has a classic fine European restaurant feel with... More

I wanted Portuguese food and I searched on Trip Advisor and the reviews seemed consistently great - however, notwithstanding the decor and the waiter, it was like eating at any other fine dining restaurant. Maybe a few fish that were on the menu were for Portugal but nothing much else. The waiter was especially friendly and the place had a... More

Although College Street is under repair, ignore the construction and focus on getting to Chiado's for a fantastic food experience. Our waiter Carlos was entertaining and very professional. The wine is very good. We had the grilled squid and clams. Desserts...don't skip!!! The chocolate mousse is divine and the Natas do Ceu delicious. If we resided in Toronto it would... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
