Loved New York in the 90s? This place has the same feeling as those great trips to NYC. The back wall has a beautiful mural of the old Twin Towers, kind of bittersweet to see. The sandwiches and service are great, and I've introduced it to my kid who's got a lot of love for their French fries.

The New Yorker Deli has been very good to me over the years, serving me great meals at a fair price. They make an excellent corned beef and their corned beef hash n' eggs is the best way to start your morning... unless you're feeling luxurious, then their corned beef eggs benny is best way to start your day. Regardless,... More

My 3 "star" rating is for the quality of the deli-meats...........being an authentic Jewish deli I have to say that none of the deli meats compare with similar delis in Montreal or even Katz deli here in Toronto. That said , this little place is not only a neighborhood gem but a reliable breakfast spot when nothing else around is... More

A small restaurant located city centre with limited seating and no convenient parking. Our Corned beef and Pastrami sandwiches were both ordered "medium cut" but both came lean. And the meat while warm could have been hotter temp wise. The pastrami could use more spices. The Potatoe Latkes were excellent as was the Beef Knish. The server was prompt and... More

While visiting Downtown Toronto, 2 of us called to the New Yorker Deli on Bay Street for something light for breakfast. Service was prompt and with a smile. Had the bacon and fried egg toasted sandwich with the 'bottomless' coffee, just what the doctor ordered. Appeared to be a popular location for the business community, well worth a visit.

I had breakfast here three times and had a sandwich made to take out. Once, the fried eggs over easy were a bit under cooked but not enough to send back. I prefer the whites not to be runny at all. I liked it for breakfast. It's a neighborhood spot and seemed clean and reliable. Prices were fair. Service was... More

This is one of the only places I know of where I can get Beef Knish in the Yonge/Bloor area (or anywhere else nowadays ... a lot of places where I used to be able to get it, don't carry it anymore). Since it's one of my favourite dishes, and I come into the city only occasionally, I always head... More

Over the years I have enjoyed many tasty deli meals -- in Toronto at Switzer’s (on Spadina), Moe Pancer’s (on Bathurst) and Yitz’s (on Eglinton); in Montreal at Schwartz's (on Saint-Laurent Boulevard), Ben’s (on de Maisonneuve, now closed) and Dunn’s (on Metcalfe); in New York at Second Avenue Deli (on 2nd Ave., now closed), Sarge’s (on 3rd Ave.), Carnegie Deli... When travelling, we enjoy experiencing different cultures and so, when in Toronto we had the idea that a Jewish Deli was in order. The New Yorker was recommended by a Jewish friend so we went on a Sunday morning. It was torture to decide what to try on the menu. We don't usually settle on the same thing, but the... More

Went here for the all day breakfast. Great price for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. Food was made with love and tasted great. I had scramble egg, toast, mini potatoes (yum) and sausages. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
