Le Bremner was strongly recommended to my husband and me (in our mid- to late-thirties) by my younger and hipper brother. We had an amazing time! The atmosphere was fun, the service was attentive and personable, and the food was excellent. We ordered the cocktails of the day after reviewing a cocktail list where it didn't seem like one could... More

Le Bremner will not adapt their menu in any manner, and it would have been helpful to have been informed of this prior to sitting down for our 8:30pm dinner reservation. I suggest that the restaurant makes this clear on their website in order to inform diners of their policies. I would have never made a reservation here (over one... More

We totally loved this place. From the minute you walk down the stairs into this unmarked, cozy, flatteringly-lit you have a feeling like you've discovered something special. At every turn this place just charmed us. The cocktails were strong and tasty. The menu was diverse and absolutely fresh. The portions were small but perfectly made. Every bite was delicious. For... don't try to ask for any changes in from their strange menu (fish cooked with beef stock?) including no flexibility to change for food allergies, etc

I was given a gift certificate. Could only reserve at the bar. The place is in Old Montreal, right now in the middle of a construction zone, and down a flight of stairs to a semi-basement. Yet, once in, what a wonderful experience. Anthony at the bar is an entertainment on his own. Service was wonderful. Food was excellent especially... More

This place is not for everyone, and it isn't for every occasion. The menu is ... different. If the thought of lamb heart makes you queasy, look elsewhere. Don't like raw shellfish, or horsemeat? Move along. And this most certainly is not the place to celebrate a quiet, romantic evening. That said, the aforementioned food is delicious and imaginatively prepared... More

Fantastic! I was with a group and we sampled the whole menus between the 6 of us. It was awesome food, company and such a wonderful setting.

Went on a weekday evening. The restaurant is a bit hard to find. There was no signs in the street to locate it, only a plaque on a sidewall leading to the restaurant in a half basement. The waiters were very friendly and attentive to our water needs. However, for some reason, it took them about an hour to finally... More

Le Brenmer is a little gem hidden in the Old Montreal area - it has an Oyster bar with house-made sauces and amazing seafood. We had the raw scallop and corn appetizer mix which was creamy and fresh - also paired it with a ginger cocktail that the bartender invented. It was a great way to finish off the night!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
