Received a recommendation to go here for lunch from our hotel concierge. It did not disappoint. Food was very good and the wine selection was very nice. They also made a great lychee martini.

Lamb Chops, marinated. Spaghetti Bolognese, al dente and delicious. Baguettes and butter were great and this place is not stingy; kept them coming. Panna cotta with maple syrup & raspberry sauce...diabetic. pleasant atmosphere and staff in the middle of old Montreal. Bank put hold on my account because withdrawing money in Detroit is apparently suspicious. Car rental process was an... More

Modavie was recommended to my fiancée and I by a work colleague of hers, and the recommendation was perfect. The food selections were quite varied, the drink options were ample, and the service was quite pleasant and friendly. We dined on a Sunday evening and the live music provided a perfect backdrop for our meal; between the food, the music... More

We went for my husband's birthday. Ambiance was great and we loved the live jazz. The bread was warm (I hate cold bread). My husband got their famous rack of lamb with sesame crust and goat cheese while I got their mushroom duck risotto. Both dishes were delicious! They melt in your mouth. Worth to go and will return again.

Prior to visiting Montreal, I did a TripAdvisor search for the best restaurants in the city and Modavie came up on almost all of them. I wrote it down in my phone so I would know to give it a try and low and behold my boyfriend and I happened to walk right past the restaurant while exploring Old Montreal... More

I tried this restaurant during special prices during January last year. The locale is cosy and the meals are delicious. I tried the lamb as in the photo: simply delicious. The entrees and desserts were also excellent. Will go again

I hadn't been to this bistro/wine bar in years until tonight when I was lucky enough to be asked to join a friend for the "Gourmet Happening" festival. What a treat for the palate as well as the pocket book! In the past I've ordered from the à la carte menu, which has a wide variety of choices, even for... More

After a week in Mont Tremblant, we returned to Montreal for the last night of our winter vacation. Because we sister had never been to the city, I booked a table at Modavie's in Old Montreal. The ambiance, service, food, and live entertainment made it the perfect ending to a wonderful week. Modavie ranks among our favorites in Montreal, and... More

Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
