Lined up at this place for dinner when we visited Montreal because of the reviews. Took some time to be seated. The smoked meat sandwich that we ordered was good but it was nothing to really rave about as far as I'm concerned. The place was cramped but service was great though.

Terrible service. Staff rush you, dont even let you look at the menu. Ridiculous prices, $2.35 for a can of coke. Dirty floors/ oily messy. TERRIBLE staff. Would not go back.

This restaurant serves up the best or possibly 2nd best Montreal style Smoked Meat Sandwich in the Montreal area ( Smoke Meat Pete's) being the other! If you looking for style and fancy decor you got the wrong place it is the Sandwich that's important here not the seating and the walls! It still has a down to earth feel... More

Probably the best smoked meat brisket in Montreal, possibly the planet. Move over pastrami, you don't even come close. However, the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten smaller. But what hasn't ? I usually get a small medium fat platter with fries, pickle and soda. The lineup can be long to get in owing to the fact... More

Visiting from the States and our Tour Guide recommended Schwartz's. He deserves his tip! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great fun.....crowded, busy, friendly and entertaining. Delicious smoked meat.

It was so busy, we ate our lunch on the sidewalk just outside! As delicious as it's reputation suggests.

Its very rare a restaurant lives up to its hype and buzz, but this one did. The food was amazing! Well worth the few minutes wait in the cold. There was no fancy fanfare, basically joined the line at the door, which by the way moves very quickly, got in, ordered the classic sandwich. Meal came really quickly, was delicious,... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
