We have been to Shodan a few times and each time is exceptional. This time we brought our 2 kids and our parents from out of town. They were all completely blown away by the food and the service. Montreal is known for good and there are many great sushi restaurants but Shodan is our the best we've ever had.... More

Good restaurant with nice service and extensive menu, food is prepared at the bar so you can watch if you want. In the end it is a bit pricey though.

After all this years Sho-Dan is still offering the best Sushis in Montreal. The newest creation Tuna with Shrimps and Jalapeño- just amazing. The service was nice and quick. My respect to keep this high level of taste and quality over these years. Ok it's pricey but what an experience.

If you like "designer" sushi à la Nobu, try Sho Dan's world famous specialities such as Besame Mucho, Kiss, Fuji etc. Regular sushi is as good as it gets in North America for someone like me who has regularly been to Japan since 1979 and dined at so many top rated sushi restaurants in Kobe and Tokyo!

De gustibus non disputandum est - but, I would like to make a claim that me (personally) I have never had any better sushi in Montreal, and maybe elsewhere for that matter. I do hesitate to say it is the best in the World, since there must be a place (or certainly places, in Japan in particular) with better sushi;... More

Wes a pretty busy night at Shodan. First time here but I am very familiar with sushi and Japanese food. Started with an order of Gyoza and shrimp tempura. I must say both were excellent. The gyoza were perfectly browned and the tempura were super light and crispy and the batter was perfect. I give those a 4.5 star. Had... More

So, Sho-Dan has always been one of my favorite downtown destinations. I've had great meals there in the past and I hope that my recent experiences are the exception and not the norm. Recently, I was there with a client for lunch. My guest ordered the sushi special from the lunch menu. As I was concentrating on entertaining my client,... More

The ambiance is nice, with pretty decoration on dishes with foods, ordered 7 types of dishes, one which is my favourite in this restaurant is called lovers. The names of the dishes are romantic, "kisses", "lovers", "Romeo and Juliette (dessert) ", etc. Should give a try, the price is not that expensive, for 2 persons, usually 3-4 dishes are enough... So what do you do when you get to Montreal and your favorite sushi place is closed for a private function? arrrrrgh......well you go to your second favorite spot, Sho-dan. To start with, Sho-dan comes under the "you get what you pay for" mantra which means you pay a lot, for the freshest and most creative sushi. For you standard... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
