Menu terrific. Wine list comprehensive. But one does have to enjoy bustle and noise. Expensive, but good value

The Bonaparte is in the bullseye of the touristy part of the old town, so very walkable from Place des Armes or the old town hotels. There seemed to be lots of building work around it when we went which was a little offputting but inside everything was well. The 2 or 3 dining rooms all seem very elegant, and... More

Travelled to Montreal Sat Aug 27- Mon Aug 29. Heard about this resto from hotel (Hotel Bonaventure - great hotel for location) concierge. Only availability for reservation was for 9:15 pm, but we took a chance and arrived at 8:30 on a Sat night and they were able to seat us. Amazing service - fine dining with white table cloths... Came here for dinner on a Friday night with my wife. I highly recommend making reservations, it does get busy and filled. This restaurant is exactly what you are looking for. They have different rooms for different levels of taste... A bar area, quiet romantic, or cozy modern casual. The servers are top notch and take their roles seriously. They... More

This was one of the best meals I have ever had. The staff was wonderful and helpful. I would highly recommend the tasting menu to get the full experience. With nearby street construction it is a little tricky to get to currently.

We dined at Bonaparte with our teenage granddaughter to celebrate her birthday. The manager geated her with birthday wishes which set the tome for the evening. The food was phenomenal and the presentation a delight to the eye. The server was gracious and attentive to our needs. Set in a building in Vieux Montreal, we felt like we were back... More

This was recommended to us by friends and we had a wonderful meal. Cocktails, appetizers and entrees were all delicious. It was a very nice environment where we weren't rushed and the service was great!

On our way to Montreal, my Life Partner found out her cousins daughter and her boyfriend were also going to be in Montreal on our 2nd night at we arranged to meet them in front of the large church on Rue Notre Dame. My classmate from High School lives in Montreal and recommended Bonaparte. We arrived in old town early... More

I had one night in Montreal and good friends recommended their favorite place for dinner. They suggested I eat at the bar since I was alone. Dinner was fantastic! I opted for the 3 course prix fixe. The appetizer of pate and prosciutto was excellent. I especially liked the red onion compote with it! My steak was cooked perfectly, and... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
