Hard to resist, these bagels are simply the BEST! When in Montreal, it's a must stop place. Bagels are soft, chewy and a must eat right out of the wood burning oven. We always get an extra dozen; both sesame and poppy seed as several are eaten in the car on the way home. A simple taste test will leave... More

There has long been a rivalry between St-Viateur Bagels and Fairmount bagels. I will not give my personal preference because part of the whole experience is getting a bagel from each place and enjoying them to create an unbiassed verdict. This place has friendly staff, freshly baked bagels and a variety of options that merit many visits more :)

One doesn't know what a "Montreal bagel" is until one has tasted it. They are unlike bagels anywhere else and are exceptional. If you're like me, after biting into one, it'll be disappointing to eat any other. Also Montreal bagels, as we call them, are available at other bakeries and delis around the city. Different and delicious.

A landmark and a must see on any trip to Montreal. Wood fired oven baking bagels right in front of you. They are rolled, placed on planks, and baked within feet of where you order. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. A paper bag of hot bagels fresh from the oven walking through Montreal - it is an... More

Very unassuming shop producing the most awesome wood-fired oven hand formed bagels. Several varieties available including all dressed which is my favorite

Definitely a different tasting bagel than NY bagels. They are made with honey water, which you can definitely taste. It's a cute little shop and worth a visit. We brought home a dozen so we can keep reliving the experience for several days!

Be aware, they only take cash, there is no place to eat, they do not sell bagels with anything on them, you can only buy the bagels. They sell them individually, or by the dozen. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We went mid day on a Sunday and it was lined up. Bagels were... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
