We came here on the off chance after visiting another premises but decided to avoid that establishment. I'm so glad we did, we very much enjoyed our meals, the beer was well kept, the staff were attentive and friendly. I will be singing your praises...to all that will listenMore
Not many places open for food on a Sunday evening in this neck of the woods, but luckily for us The Lion was offering a very tempting Sunday night menu. The brisket of beef was delicious, and the burger was top-notch. The young waiting staff...are a credit to the place; nothing was too much trouble, and they made us feel very welcome. A lovely experience.More
Such a lovely Hotel. Beams a plenty. Stayed with family for 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. Great room No 4 with view over the river & meadow. Weather was so hot 30+ Enjoyed watching people swim in river from early morning...to late evening. Bus stop just over the road so easy to get to Ludlow which was about 15mins away. Staff very good & friendly. Very tasty breakfast with lots of choice. Would love to stay again someday. Can recommend 😁😁😁More
Thank you Carole, I am so glad you enjoyed the your stay and Ludlow Food Festival. The river and gardens certainly come into their own in the hot weather, but they also look lovely in Autumn, Winter and Spring. We hope you are able to...More
Lovely setting and great decor. A good selection of drinks on offer. We visited during a steak night and since we had a dog with us, we were booked into the top bar. We thought it was a good value for the money and the...steak meals were really nice. We upgraded all meals to surf & turf - we found it to be a very weird take on a surf & turf, as the prawns were served shelled and separately. They were also way overcooked. Absolutely not worth the £4 supplement. We were served garlic bread, but clearly this was misinterpretation of the ticket from server to kitchen, as that was supposed to be a garlic sauce to go with the steak... not bread. There was 3 of us and when asked about the steak night for the third person, we were told it would half of the cost for the third person, so £25. In actual fact, we were charged £33. When I tried to rectify all the issues, there was simply nobody to be seen, and that's the biggest problem with the restaurant really. I ended up marking it a lesson learnt and walked away, having being overcharged £8 for the steak and £4 for garlic bread that we didn't order, not to mention an additional £12 on being misled on what surf & turf means to this restaurant (very different than the 000's of restaurants that I've eaten at, and this is not a good thing...). Fundamentally, it boils down to this - since you're in the top bar, you are secluded from the main restaurant, but that seems to include the serving staff as well - issues are difficult to overcome and you feel forgotten sat in there. The couple next to us asked for a dessert menu, but 20 mins later, they hadn't received them, so asked for the bill and left. Clearly we weren't alone in the feeling of seclusion last evening. The steaks and sundries were excellent, hence giving a mid tier star rating.More
What a lovely pub by the river Friendly staff Very clean Lovely food Children’s park area out the back 10/10
Good morning Hannah, I am so glad you like the Lion and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
2nd visit here (last year first time) and this time didn’t disappoint yet again! Lovely warm food, friendly staff and quick service. I was with my mother who has not yet been to The Lion and she loved her experience. We had 3 different waitress/waiters...and were all very friendly and quick with service. Quality of food was spot on. We both had a main, pudding and coffee’s and they were all amazing. Will definitely be returning in the future.More
Thank you Alice and we look forward to seeing you again.
Lovely spot and a quality place we have known for years. The Staff welcome was great and as we hadn`t booked, a space was found in the top room. Menu seemed a little "pricey" but fair for a "Gastro Pub". Unfortunately £5 for a basic...lager plus a £1 for a spot of lemonade "P****d" me off a little, as did a "half portion" (thats what it appeared to be) of Tart for desert @ £9.. It might be fine for London SW 1 , but Not what locals expect..More
I am so sorry you felt the food and drinks were expensive, but sadly we have had to react to the increase in prices of our ingredients without compromising on their quality. We can always buy cheaper but cheaper is not always better and can...More
Me and my husband came here today with our dog. It had a really nice atmosphere. We arrived at roughly 11 in the morning, all the staff was very welcoming! They don't Serve food until 12 but they took our orders so they could get...on it straight away. They all loved our dog, Twiglet. They even opened the dog friendly section a little early so we didn't have to sit and wait in the rain. The food, OMG the food! I got chicken shawarma sandwich with a cucumber dip, which was full of flavor came with fries which were lovely and crisp and fluffy, and coleslaw. My husband got a burger, it was delicious. You could tell the meat was fresh. Also came with fries and coleslaw.More
good morning, I am so glad that you both and Twiglet enjoyed your meal. Please come again soon.
Stayed for 1 night, room extremely comfy and well maintained. Had dinner and drinks in the restaurant - Red Mullett was delicious and my husband enjoyed the Hake and chips. Reasonably priced and good quality food. After a good nights rest we were served a...hearty breakfast, good choices and great quality ingredients. We enjoyed our stay in this very quiet and pretty location.More
I am so glad you enjoyed your night with us. Please come again soon.
Brought here by my son and his partner, and what a lovely spot. A somewhat upmarket and impressive pub with the feel of a nice hotel. Perched right next to the river, and great to eat outside or in. Also a very good bar. The...food is magic tbh, and the staff are lovely. An excellent venue all year around.More
Thank you for your review, I am so glad you enjoyed your visit.
We had an excellent meal at the Lion - our group had the steak night special and the hake and the food was delicious and great value. Great service, super location and nice atmosphere
Thank you Martin. Please come again soon.
We took advantage of the Steak night special and we weren't disappointed. The food and drink was first class and reasonably priced. A lovely place to dine.
Thank you for your review and for coming to dine with us.
Private dining with 15 family members for a celebration. The food was excellent and the staff were great. The room was ideal. Special thanks to Nathan who went above and beyond to make the experience spot on.
Thank you for leaving this review, I am so glad your diamond anniversary celebrations were a success.
Not sure why the Lion insists on serving beer battered hake. It probably sells because, month on month, there is no alternative . Hake is a very cheap alternative to cod , very bland and on three occasion seemed very dry.More
Good morning, the Lion 'insists' on serving Hake because it is a very popular dish. The price of the dish, whatever the dish, reflects the cost of the ingredients and is irrelevant to point. I am sorry that you personally do not like Hake but this...More
