We called here for a Sunday lunch with friends while visiting the area for the weekend, it was all a very average and slightly disappointing experience. The Sunday roast was very anaemic and lacking in any flavour, it just needed more love and care, the...very pale chewy roast potatoes with no flavour were absolutely the worst part accompanied by a small chewy Yorkshire and a small portion of dry meat and very very greasy gravy with fat floating all over, it was all ok enough to not complain. However equally very poor value for £22 and most people would make better at home; so for a meal out it's not what you expect. As a side note we were seated in the 'top bar' and service was extremely slow and the vibe was certainly a little cold and forgotten about, the bar was equally cold given the very cold weather out.More

Excellent service, superb food (sorry we couldn't finish it all but we were all so stuffed!) And the singing of happy birthday over and above the call of duty. Thanks for warming our cockles on a freeeeezing day. We'll be back.

Have eaten here three times. The first time my husband said it was the best fish and chips he had ever tasted. The following visit three people ordered the same fish dish to find it undercooked and soggy. We gave it another try just before...Christmas, most of the meals were ok but the Camembert wreath was appalling. The dough balls were cold, the smoked garlic on top cold, didn’t see rosemary or cranberries but the worst part was the Camembert it was overripe. We each took a fair mouthful to be confronted with the overwhelming smell of ammonia. It took a good 48 hours to get the smell out of my nose. I explained to the waitress what happens to Camembert when it is past it’s use by date and also complained to the gentleman who took payment but we were still charged, incredible really. Maybe a stock control error meant we ended up with an out of date cheese or maybe we weren’t the only complaints.More

Utterly disappointed! Service lacked personal touch. Xmas dinner looked like it had been literally thrown on the plate and sloshed with thin gravy-would preferred in separate jug. Minimal veg, small amount of overcooked cabbage found buried under roast potato. Sausage to pig in blanket pink....There was no care, love or attention invested into the preparation and delivery of this meal. Based on this experience I will not recommend to others!More

Lovely atmosphere and staff. The meal was mostly enjoyable but ( although not a chef), My personal opinion the starter that I had, (potted crab and crayfish with brioche loaf),would have been much tastier if served with either crusty bread or toast. The brioche that...it was served with tasted like cake and did nothing to enhance the flavours of crab and d crayfish . When I ate the rest of the starter without the brioche, oh what a difference. I chose the braised beef for my main. Again flavours were there but I felt it was let down by a lack of ( gravy, some sort of sauce?). Although it was served with what was described as sweet potato dauphinois there was certainly no creamy sauce in it. The meal was described as served with red wine gravy ( I think that may have been the little bit of ju that was around it). Unfortunately sucked up by everything around it as it was so dry ( when the waitress came to ask us if our meal was ok, I did say tasty but a little dry). I didn’t get a reaction.More

Lovely, classic inn. Shame I didn’t get more time here. Great room with quality bedding and spacious bathroom with Arran Aromatics ‘After the Rain’ toiletries. Good evening meal delivered to my room as I was on my own but the pub itself looked fab.

Stayed two nights at this lovely restaurant with rooms in a comfortable and well appointed room with a view overlooking the River Teme. Shower was a bit cranky but that did not detract. Evening meal for six in the restaurant both nights was excellent, a...good choice of dishes that pleased all tastes. Everything well prepared. Breakfast also very good although on Sunday morning the service was somwhat leisurely. Recommended for a short break with glorious countryside on the doorstep. Friendly and helpful staff.More

Not many places open for food on a Sunday evening in this neck of the woods, but luckily for us The Lion was offering a very tempting Sunday night menu. The brisket of beef was delicious, and the burger was top-notch. The young waiting staff...are a credit to the place; nothing was too much trouble, and they made us feel very welcome. A lovely experience.More

Weather was so hot 30+ Enjoyed watching people swim in river from early morning...to late evening. Bus stop just over the road so easy to get to Ludlow which was about 15mins away. Staff very good & friendly. Very tasty breakfast with lots of choice. Would love to stay again someday. Can recommend 😁😁😁More

Lovely setting and great decor. A good selection of drinks on offer. We visited during a steak night and since we had a dog with us, we were booked into the top bar. We thought it was a good value for the money and the...steak meals were really nice. We upgraded all meals to surf & turf - we found it to be a very weird take on a surf & turf, as the prawns were served shelled and separately. They were also way overcooked. Absolutely not worth the £4 supplement. We were served garlic bread, but clearly this was misinterpretation of the ticket from server to kitchen, as that was supposed to be a garlic sauce to go with the steak... not bread. There was 3 of us and when asked about the steak night for the third person, we were told it would half of the cost for the third person, so £25. In actual fact, we were charged £33. When I tried to rectify all the issues, there was simply nobody to be seen, and that's the biggest problem with the restaurant really. I ended up marking it a lesson learnt and walked away, having being overcharged £8 for the steak and £4 for garlic bread that we didn't order, not to mention an additional £12 on being misled on what surf & turf means to this restaurant (very different than the 000's of restaurants that I've eaten at, and this is not a good thing...). Fundamentally, it boils down to this - since you're in the top bar, you are secluded from the main restaurant, but that seems to include the serving staff as well - issues are difficult to overcome and you feel forgotten sat in there. The couple next to us asked for a dessert menu, but 20 mins later, they hadn't received them, so asked for the bill and left. Clearly we weren't alone in the feeling of seclusion last evening. The steaks and sundries were excellent, hence giving a mid tier star rating.More
