This is a little local place running a restaurant and bed and breakfast not far from Uxmal. This is not a luxury place, with it's thatched roof, concrete floor, and basic wooden tables. But don't worry, it is clean. This is authentic Mayan cooking. We could see the lady cooking it back in the kitchen. Ask what she recommends that... More

I've had numerous lunches and dinners at Chac-Mool over several years, and can honestly say that the food has always been tasty and very pleasing. Ambiance is seriously lacking at Chac-Mool, so don't expect a lovely place for a candlelit romantic evening. And service, while pleasant enough, is somewhat casual. The lighting is poor, and the sound in the large... More

I visited Restaurant Chac-Mool for lunch on November 23rd with a friend, after touring the Uxmal Ruins and on my way to the Kabah Ruins. This local restaurant was located along Highway 261 (left hand side if coming from the Uxmal), between Uxmal and Kabah in the small and traditional Mayan village of Santa Elena. For those renting a car,... More

Budget hotel but 10 kms from Uxmal. Apart from the hotel there is a dinning room and a gift shop. The gift shop ha an impressive display of carved stone Mayan works done by family members.

We had a great day in Uxmal and were looking for a place to get some food. We wanted to get away from the touristy crowds near the ruins. Chac-Mool was recommended by one of the locals working at the Choco-Story so we decided to check it out. There were several lovely ladies who prepared us a delicious traditional meal.... More

Probably the best food I have had in Yucatan in a small cosy, family-driven restaurant in a small (and hardly significant) Santa Elena! The guacamole itself, made from local (yellow) avocados, thick and itself is worth a trip from Cancun! Cochinita Pibil - marvellous. Highly recommended. We drove there from Uxmal where we spent 2 nights. The trip takes about... More

We were fortunate to be the only customers in this small eatery on the road past Santa Elena. The women greeted us warmly and invited us to tour their home as they made our tortillas over a wood fired stove. Our paunches were excellent.

This is worth the visit just to see the woodcarvings by the husband , who works at nearby Mayan ruins. Nice large building with a traditional thatched roof , carved posts and cooking on a traditional wood fired oven outside under a roof , at least for the tortillas. Very good local food, beautifully done. The people there are very... More

Well, it doesn't get more authentic then this. The chickens and pigs live in back of the restaurant! The family also has a small fruit and vegetable farm. We ate traditional maya food and delicious guacamole made in front of us. We also had wonderful interactions with the very friendly family owners.
