Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This cosy cafe is situated on the corner of East Street opposite the stunning ancient church of St Mary de Haura. The friendly staff serve a range of hot and cold drinks including delicious coffee and hot chocolate. The food is cooked to order and...includes hearty soups, jacket potatoes with delicious fillings, and outstanding Welsh rarebit. Sandwiches, wraps and salads are also on offer as well as a range of delicious cakes. Vegetarian and Vegan options are also available. Highly recommended.More

In this increasingly de-humanised world, Hectors provides a cosy corner of good humoured friendliness. The staff must know fifty customers by name, many of whom return every day. The soups must be the tastiest in Sussex, if not the whole world, and accompanied with avocado...and grilled halloumi on rye toast, they make a wonderful meal. Thank you for being such a lovely warm place.More

Visited here recently. I would never return as I don't think it is appropriate that we should have to sit and listen to staff using the F word and s*** as well as commenting on some person outside the cafe. It is a very small...place so very easy to hear loud voices.More

I booked a table here as my sister wanted to come here for her belated birthday, my sister said the place is small so perhaps booking a table would be best, thank goodness I did, it is very small I sat down and waited for...my sister, my mum and my other sister, the member of staff came over promptly to take a drinks order whilst I wait. My sister, my other sister and my mum arrived, it went down hill from there! We ordered 3 teas and water, only the water and 2 teas turned up, no sign of the other, my sister went up and asked where the other tea was, then nobody came back to take our order so again my sister went up to the counter to put our order in. We waited half an hour for the food, everyone else who came in got there order, my sister again asked how long our food is, I think they forgotten, my other sister and my mum got there order but myself who ordered cake and my sister who's birthday it was didn't receive her food, I wasn't bothered, again my other sister asked where her food was, they completely forgotten hers, 45 minutes later it arrived and she had to quickly eat it and go as she had to go. The staff were non apologetic and rude. Such a shame because the cakes are nice. I don't think I'll come again, I expect better and that wasn't what we wantedMore

I came here with my Mum on Saturday and we enjoyed a lovely brunch. We had never tried this quaint little cafe before, despite frequently visit Shoreham. The staff were very welcoming and the service was ace! I would highly recommend this cafe.

I saw a bad review on trip advisor, and had to respond. I've eaten here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. The coffee is top notch. The cakes are to die for, and the food, all quality local produce, never disappoints. The place...is totally unpretentious and the staff, without exception are brilliant. They are attentive and not only do they listen to your requests, they do their best to meet them. If you want to photograph your food, rather than eat it, this place might not be for you.More

Coffee poor quality, overcooked fried up and staff audibly bad mouthing previous customers. A shame as this used to be quite a good cafe.

Popped in for a takeaway coffee and cake. Service was very friendly. I opted for a mocha and a slice of coffee and walnut cake, plus carrot and walnut for my wife. Mocha was really nice, just the write level of flavours. Cakes were good...without being great, hence a solid four stars.More

This small by perfectly formed Cafe serves excellent food, catering for Vegan, Veggies and all customers whatever their preferences. Sandra makes the most amazing cakes, scones and other tantalising food to eat in or takeaway. Me, I’m addicted to her bread pudding which is terrible...for the waistline but once a week I like a treat. A friendlier place would be very hard to find, all of the girls are great.More

The Rotary Club of Shoreham and Southwick had their Christmas Charity Fair on 27th November at The Centre, Shoreham by Sea. The caterers let us down and Hector's Shed stepped in and made many of the Stallholders and Rotarians delicious sandwiches. It was a very...cold day and we are so grateful for your support and sustenance! And they made a donation to our Charity. Hectors Shed....You are great!More
