This is a large pub with a huge outdoor area overlooking the river. We ordered 4 salads at 1.15pm and they arrived at 2.15pm. Okay, it was a sunny Saturday and the pub was fairly busy; fortunately we weren't starving. The salads were tasty enough...but the portions were small. Overall a lovely venue with average food.More

Normal a nice pub but avoid if the staff are under 21 as they have no idea about customer service more interested in talking to each other and complaining about customers

Visited yesterday for a Mother’s Day roast and it had to be one of the worst experiences I’ve had in a pub in my life! Arrived at time of booking to find table not ready, can understand that as it was a busy day but...no apology and no greeting made. Very long wait for service both at the table and at the bar when attempting to get a drink rather than waiting for service and adding to the obvious pressure they were under. When the food did eventually arrive it was terrible to say the least, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings burnt to a point of being completely black and then had to wait 10 minutes for the cutlery and veg to arrive by which point of course the parts of the meal that might have been ok was stone cold. When we tried to complain the so called supervisor was rude and dismissive, and then we heard the staff mocking our complaint. Clearly the planning for this day was non existent and either though greed or simply poor management was over booked. Completely ruined the first Mother’s Day we have been able to celebrate as a complete family since before covid. Before yesterday this pub was somewhere I went often but I will never go here again. We did have the food taken off the bill but given none of us ate it we should not have been expected to pay for it.More

Big family meal for mothers day. Terrible customer service. The staff had serious attitude problem. Food took 1.5 hour. No apology, no concern. Food was mediocre. Dirty plates, dirty cutlery, when asked for clean cutlery, received more attitude instead of an apology. Filthy toilets. The...place could be lovely. Something seriously wrong between management and staff. If u work in a pub like this, hygiene and service is a big factor!! Would definitely not recommend. Ever.More

We are regulars to the crown and anchor so was expecting good things for Mother’s Day unfortunately it couldn’t have been any worse. Clearly busy, which was expected we waited for our table to be ready, a 5.30pm booking. Lots of things unavailable on the...menu, again we expected this with a later booking. The colleagues working were something else, we was seated no ‘hello’ ‘how are you’ no pleasantries, was asked for our drink order eventually, no ‘thank you’ just the colleague walking off after taking the order. The drinks arrived quick but had to ask for the ‘free Prosecco for mums’ that was offer - which arrived warm and half a glass - no issue, free after all. No sides left so ordered 5 chicken roast and 1 lamb, They arrived after a long wait - meat, gravy and burnt freezing Yorkshire on the plate, no veg and no cutley, we waited 10 minutes for some cutlery (asking multiple times) by this time the gravy and meat were also stone cold. Lamb tough and over cooked. When the veg arrived we told them about the burnt greasy Yorkshires, their answer was they knew they were burnt and cold but could put them in the microwave? During the time waiting it was obvious other meals had been sent back to the kitchen as we heard the floor colleagues and the kitchen colleagues arguing and moaning about customers in front of guests and then the bar staff eating the food that had been sent back infront of people. We asked to speak to the supervisor who was actually the rude person who seated us, he told us he knew everything was unacceptable but it wasn’t his fault he had had a bad day and he told his boss not to take so many bookings at the beginning of the week. He also said he didn’t have time to speak to us and walked off. When asked to speak to the manager he said no she was busy that she had worked extra hours today. After this conversation he then went over to his colleague who were all taking the mick out of our complaint, loudly for everyone to hear, I think this was by far the most unprofessional service I have ever experienced in any type of setting. I work in a high pressure retail environment myself and on my key trading times im there until the end to ensure a smooth operation and customer satisfaction and I certainly would not think it was exceptable for my staff to be taking the mick out of a customers complaint especially on the floor in front of people. We addressed this with the supervisor as we was leaving to which his reply was they had all had a long day. It was truly a disaster from start to finish. The crown and Anchor have lost some loyal customers from tonight. We ended up not paying for the meal as it was only the kids who actually ate some of the food. Unprofessional Unorganised Unmanageable Dreadful foodMore

Pre booked for Mother’s Day, waited almost 3 hours for food (they were only serving roasts) meal arrived and looked delicious but was stone cold. Waited ages between drinks before food, really disappointed, very under staffed, queue at bar was ridiculous for 1pm!

Sunday roast was spot on. There was a bit of a wait for service at times it may be better if the manager put the waitresses / staff into their own sections as there were a lot of staff serving all tables which seem to...cause confusion. Also a good dusting of the top area is required as cob webs seem to be a feature above the lights hanging by the boat and high beams, hope this does not reflect on the kitchen.More

We waited 1 & a half hours for our food - no one came to apologise at any point. We booked on line - and we’re told our table was outside when we arrived (their website did not say that) - in February!! When the...food (Sunday roast) frankly came it was fine. Our waitress was nice - none of this was her fault. Don’t eat here!!More

Badly run and poor customer service. Booked online, arrived to be told we were seated outside (it’s February) they managed to sit us in function room when we said we wanted to be inside (online booking hadn’t indicated outside table). Given menus with QR code...to order - app asked you to set up an account which we did then the app said kitchen wasn’t taking orders. Found staff to ask how to order and was told to order at bar. We have now been waiting an hour and 20 minutes and still no food. Most of the tables haven’t been cleared from previous diners and all staff when asked are saying ‘there’s no really much I can do about it’ etc No warning about the hour plus waiting time, no apologies. Most diners seem to have booked so the pub did approximately know many people would be dining. We won’t come here again ….and definitely wouldn’t recommend.More
