Just had the best Sunday lunch I have eaten so far in essex since moving here from south London in January. A real treat delicious roast potatoes and beautiful sirloin of beef and homemade veg and gravy. Followed by beautiful homemade dessert of jam roly...poly and custard. Lovely welcoming staff all happy to have a chat and very welcoming. Will definitely be back. Booked for next week already. This pub is not to missed.More

We stopped here to break a journey home. Friendly owners/staff, good choice of your typical comfort pub food with v generous portions. I had a really tasty veggie pie with lots of veg and gravy. Everything we ate seemed homemade and good quality.

I second the takeaway option. My friend informed me that they were on their way to collect a takeaway Sunday roast which I thought was a brilliant idea. I contacted the pub to see if they could also do a takeaway for me which was...short notice but not a problem. Said roast was delivered to me by my friend and was just perfect. The pub is the perfect setting for a Sunday lunch, a cosy and traditional village pub but every now and then you just need a lazy Sunday and a takeaway roast is exactly what was needed!!More

As usual, delicious roast dinner prepared and packed up for me to takeaway and enjoy at home after a really busy week. Always met with the kindest of smiles and nothing is too much trouble. Love the variety of vegetable. The beef was cooked beautifully...and the gravy is just Devine. Thanks Stacy and the team for making my Sunday easy and relaxing.More

We needed a place halfway between our homes to meet lifelong friends for a catch up lunch. After googling and looking at reviews we settled on the rose and crown, stansted mount fitchet. From the moment we arrived we received great service and a wonderful...welcome. All of the food on the menu is home made and cooked freshly. Portions are large and everything we had was really lovely . Eggs, skin on chips and salad, beef and ale pie, chips and peas, lasagne, chips and salad and battered fish and chips followed by lovely deserts and coffee. What was lovely was the hosts were flexible as my friends have dietary needs including gluten free and all of their needs were able to be met with absolutely no concerns. We had a great reunion made perfect by the hosts. We will definitely go back and I recommend you try them. They are a proper English pub with great home cooked food so please give them a goMore

A traditional English pub with a warm welcome and a log fire. The food was delicious and the portions generous. Tracey and her family made us feel immediately "at home" and nothing was too much trouble. My wife and I from Leicester and son &...daughter-in-law from Kent met here to exchange Christmas gifts. We had no idea that we were in for such a pleasant time, and we cannot wait to find any excuse to meet here again. Thank you Tracey and gang.More

Visited many times, always a friendly welcome- good range of beers, wines and excellent menu. Has a good feel to it, like a classic country pub but walkable from anywhere in Stansted Mountfitchet. Stacy will always make you feel like “ regular” and very welcome.

I'd been travelling all week. The trains across East Anglia were all haywire, so I aborted my journey at Stansted Mountfitchet and we wanted a good proper Sunday lunch to re-establish a bit of comfort. Which is where the Rose and Crown comes in. This...is a proper village pup - cosy bar, locals enjoying lunchtime pints, and a staff team who are incredibly welcoming. They're also proud of what their kitchen produces - all home-cooked roasts (pork, beef, chicken) with Yorkshire puddings, loads of veg and superb gravy. This is what Sundays should feel like. It's a lovely and unpretentious set-up that made our Sunday feel just that bit more special.More

We are relatively new to the area and decided to try out a local pub for lunch. We struck gold.A very friendly young lady served us. The selection of food was excellent and the portions extremely generous. A log burning fire helped set the atmosphere....Apparently there is an extensive garden at the back so we will bring the grandchildren in the nicer weather and it is dog friendly. The downside was we were so full we couldn’t even dare look at the desert menu!More

Had lunch here last Sunday, we didn’t have a booking so took a chance. The smell of the food as we were going in the door was so nice so we were hoping they would fit us in. And they did. We both had roast...beef. I really like that they asked how we liked our beef cooked as I don’t like mine pink. Everything was delicious and lots of veg and gravy. Also like the fact that they had other options on a Sunday other than roast as others I’ve been to only do Sunday roast on Sunday. We will definitely be back.More

What a jewel! The Sunday roast was the best roast we’ve had in years. The gravy was delicious and the meat was perfect. Crispy and crackly roasties with delicious homemade stuffing. Everything was steaming hot too. The service was spot on, friendly and attentive staff...who make you feel comfortable and welcome and who want to ensure you’ve had a great lunch. My husband had the pie and it went down a treat. Everything is homemade and absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back and this was an absolute treat to find. Thank you for the fabulous lunch!More
