This pub is the epitome of excellent customer service
Staying nearby, and on the recommendation of the accommodation providers, we booked a table for two consecutive nights. Telephone booking was achieved effortlessly and on arrival on the first night we were offered a choice of...tables. The warm greeting set the tone for the evening. The member of staff serving us was very attentive - I think she was the one who took the booking- and the food was first rate. The choices, the cooking, the presentation were all excellent and the prices very reasonable.
After the meal my wife went outside to the terrace for a cigarette. Partially disabled by a brain tumour she was disappointed that in the smoking- designated area there were only uncomfortable and, for her, inaccessible, picnic benches rather than wooden tables and dining chairs nearer to the pub entrance. On leaving she mentioned this to one of the staff.
If you want to know how to handle customers’ complaints take a leaf out of the George and Dragon’s book. Next evening, when we arrived, we immediately noticed the outside seating had been reconfigured. More comfortable tables and chairs nearer to the doors were now available to smokers. On arrival, I think Dan was waiting to greet us and to tell us of the new arrangements. We noticed, we said, and thanked him profusely. He then seated us by a door with immediate access to the outside space and was friendly but never intrusive throughout the evening.
Again, the meal was excellent and the pub itself has managed to achieve a great blend of comfortable, spacious dining within a setting proudly showing off its historic pedigree. Residents of Ightham, and I envy them, must be proud to have this as their local. Elegance, history, great food and stellar service - you cannot want for more.More
