Two fires burning, Thwaites's Best, selection of lovely home-cooked fare. so a perfect stop for a freezing February lunch. A friendly clientele a bonus. Wish it was my local.

Following this establishments fantastic support of Spine Race runners in very wet January, we decided to travel the 50 or so miles there for lunch, with our son, who was visiting us for a few days. Well worth the drive, landlord and landlady very pleasant and friendly. Lovely pub with real fires and the food was outstanding. Highly recommended. We... More

The landlord had gone to a great effort to accommodate competitors on the 2017 Montane Spine and Challenger races by covering an area of the pub so we could go in as we arrived - muddy, wet, and tired after 70 miles of racing in terrible conditions. He put on a special menu which was on my table within moments... More

We walked over the hills to the Hare and Hounds after checking the opening times on the website and arrived at about 12:00 in time for a meal. The notice board outside said meals were served on Monday to Friday between 12:00 and 14:00. Excellent, we thought, and went to go in through the door. It was locked! A man... More

Ten of us from all over the UK met for a meal in memory of Private Alvin Smith of Lothersdale, our great-uncle who was killed on the Somme exactly 100 years earlier. The table was prepared well, the food was excellent and the bill very reasonable. The juicy, delicious steak pudding, packed with meat, was probably the best I've ever... More

One of our group arranged a walk through the wonderful scenery around Lothersdale culminating with lunch at the pub. What a find! Warm welcome, extensive menu and specials, attactive decor. My mind was made up before I looked at the menu - the most delicious looking prawn salad was just being served as we walked in. It was as good... More

We had a couple of drinks in the pub which were nice; well kept beer and cider. However, we decided to eat from the specials menu and both meals were not what you would expect. The steak pudding was hard and the chicken special was extremely over cooked. It was clear that both had been microwaved to heat them up.... More

I called in today to what was once a lovely Public House. On previous occasions , in the company of a friend, we were treated appallingly by the thoroughly unpleasant Landlord. He is unpleasant, ignorant and rude. We parked on the Car Park, which was empty, and needed to use the toilet, before sitting down and having a drink and... More

Called in for a late Saturday lunch - Sue had the braised steak which melted in your mouth and was very tasty - I had the steak and stilton which was cooked very well and was medium rare just as I like it. The portions are large and although you have to wait whilst its cooked at least you know... More
