Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited The Rum Bar with 8 Friends one night, 11 friends the next night & Julia, my wife, & I visited for a meal on our last night in Polzeath. On each occasion we were greeted with nothing but helpful, friendly staff, the Bars...Manager, Henry, was more than helpful. As was the gentleman who served us our dinner. The food was excellent. Julia had the Moules Mariniere & I had the gorgeous Fish Curry. We have been many times since it first opened and love it as the epitome of beachside life with the amazing atmosphere. Cannot wait for our next visit!More

This is a best in class bar. We walked the Pentire Head and stopped by on the way back to Polzeath. Great beer and great service. But get this....I lost my prescription glasses. After a bit of detective work I figured I may have left...them at Surfside. I called them and Lilly found them and posted them to me. Such honest people are rare nowadays. Thank you, Lilly and Surfside. Will be back next year and the drinks are on me.More

Met family and friends at Surfside last weekend. We got a table on the beach in the glorious Cornish (Indian Summer) sunshine. We enjoyed a few drinks, location was perfect for my 5 year old to play on the beach while we caught up. Didn’t...try the food but what I saw come out looked delicious….More

Last minute getaway to Polzeath for a sunny October weekend. Spent most of our time at Surfside. Can't praise them enough, staff friendly and helpful, food amazing (ate 2 lunches and 1 dinner there over the weekend), live band Omega Nebula were fantastic, atmosphere awesome....I emailed prior to our visit to check that the dog would be allowed inside and received quick conformation. Reading some of the reviews its like they visited somewhere different to us. Yes it is quite expensive, but you get what you pay for - the location is unrivalled, menu small but why do you need a big menu when it is all good. You can't beat sitting in the sun with your feet in the sand while eating great food, drinking cold drinks and listening to chilled tunes. We will definitely be back and after seeing the roast dinners coming out I will be sampling one of those next time. Thankyou for making our getaway so awesome.More

What a place! So glad we found this little gem. The food was on point and the service was fantastic. Think the guy that served us was called Matt, he was super attentive and gave us some great recommendations. Wish we lived closer so we...could visit every week! Will definitely be back when we are next in Cornwall.More

I found the staff in both the rum bar and surf side this evening rude, disinterested and the food expensive and disappointing. The rum bar has changed a lot too. When it was quite secret years ago, the chaps behind the bar knew their rums...and produced some amazing cocktails. Now, it’s lost its cool atmosphere, the staff are grumpy and the cocktails just don’t taste very nice - yet are £12! When ordering food it was total shambles. And not very nice for the price they were. We don’t mind paying for a good quality meal, but this was not. The squid was so rubbery in particular. It’s such a shame as the venue and views of the beach are amazing. But this is the 3rd place in Polzeath we’ve visited where food and service was just poor. I’ve been coming to Polzeath for over 30 years. I’ve visited all of these places so many times yet they all seem to have gone down hill now. Why? So no? Sadly we won’t be eating here again and probably won’t come back for drinks for the rest of our holiday. I want to give it just 1* but the beach setting is lovely so I’ve given it a 2nd star just for that.More

Been visiting this place for a few years - I go every couple of weeks in the summer. Love the food and the service is great, but last night realised how greedy this owner has become. I work in hospitality - understand all the costs...and escalation in raw goods pricing and increase in Tax which came into effect on the 1st of August. Ordered a large glass of what the waitress described as house red (no wine list on table). It was ok - nothing special, but I chose house because my daughter was taking me out for a meal and this was the first time she was paying. Imagine my surprise when the 250ml house wine was £16.17 a glass! I hadn’t checked the wine list before ordering so my error - my glass of wine was nearly as expensive as my main course. So alarmed at the price I checked the wine menu as I left - price on wine list was £15.40 - still extortionate but it was on there. So why pay £16.17 - when I went back and questioned it was advised the wine list prices had gone up by 10% and the owner hadn’t had chance to change the wine list. They gave me a cash refund which was great - but this is a breach licensing laws and frankly a rip off. I will go back because food is excellent and staff are great - but never again will I order a house wine without checking the price!More

Surprisingly rude staff, unfortunate really as it could be a nice spot on the beach. Tacky decor is kitch / fun and don’t mind paying £6 for a pint but disinterested, unhelpful, rude staff ruined our trip there.

We welcome small, well behaved dogs but dogs aren't allowed on the beach between Easter and October at Polzeath.
