Further from the main road than expected, almost turned around but glad we kept on. Stopped for a quick coffee and cake. Very busy which is always a good sign. Appeared to be well organised and didn't have long to wait. Nice area for kids...to play and dog friendly area as well. We would stop here again.More

Only ordered breakfast and tea/coffee. Breakfast came and we chased up beverages, which turned up after we’d finished breakfast (25 minutes from ordering). Went up to view cakes and to order but was asked to return to table and someone would come to take the...order. Nope ….. nobody came, gave up and went to pay. Loads of staff but they were too busy chatting amounts themselves. You would have thought after complaining about the time the tea/coffee took to come and having received an apology, they would then be more attentive. Shame as we had excellent lunch at same place recently but service far too inconsistent for us to return.More

We always make a special visit of 80 miles to Castleton Farm and have enjoyed some good food and service over the years. Sadly this week it wasn’t the case. Food was still ok but the service was poor. Not sure whether there were just...not enough staff but we waited 25 minutes for our order to be taken. When we then asked for a further coffee and two straberry tarts we waited another 20 minutes having to remind the waitress that we were still waiting. Overall we will be back but will probably leave it for a good few months in the hope that things improve. Very disappointedMore

We stopped off and then stupidly locked ourselves out of our motorhome. We had to wait over four hours for a locksmith but there are worse places to wait. Lovely food (we ate breakfast and lunch), great produce in the farm shop and FANTASTIC staff....One helped us with contacting someone to unlock our motorhome and was generally warm and friendly. Made a stressful situation a lot calmer. Thank you very much!More

Had the macaroni what a let down used to be so much better with thick cheese sauce and melted cheese on top. Now very mediocre cheese sauce was thin pale and no melted cheese on top. I love the fish there and normally would have...taken fish. But took the macaroni based on how it used to be. Will never order macaroni from there again, as it was more like poor canteen macaroni. Perhaps they have changed the chef if so not for the better. Have been on a number of occasions for meals in the past but no more macaroni for me, which is such a shame. Still have a 4 out of 5 rating as it is still a nice place to visit for lunch. Previous macaroni 10 out of 10 Today’s macaroni 6 out of 10 😢😢😢😢More

On a recent trip to Edinburgh we stopped here on both legs of the journey. Each time we had an excellent experience. A warm welcome and escorted to our table. Everything was immaculate. The food as always is tasty and well presented. The waiting staff...were efficient and very pleasant. This is a must if you are in the area. The deli also has a great selection including their delicious berries.More

A coffee stop on our way to the coast - excellent 'long black' coffee, strong but not bitter, and fresh scones with Castleton raspberry jam. Waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Overall a very positive experience.

This has been a favourite stop off for us since it opened and I have visited dozens of times and until yesterday was always extremely happy. I chose the small portion fish and chips, my wife a salmon salad. The salad was up to normal...standard, but the fish and chips were poor. The fish was poorly battered, not completely covered, there was a very small portion of chips, a tub of h/m tartare (which was good). There was nothing else on the plate at all...I have always had a salad. This was very poor, esp when charged £9.50 for it. Businesses need to be careful not to try and claw back losses over the last year by forgetting everything that made them so successful in the past. I still love this destination, and will return, but I was dissatisfied.More

After reading the web site we decided that this would be the very best place to stop after a day at the beach. The fluffy scones sold it. Unfortunately we arrived at 3:50 and it was clear that the staff had already decided to shut...up shop for the day. After waiting at the entrance to be seated, I eventually approached the counter to enquire, I was instructed back to the door to wait. There were two other tables and one pleasant lady serving. We were offered a drinks menu but nothing else. When asked what they had, we were told we could look at the display of cakes they had left, at the counter, the one I had been chased back from earlier. A cappuccino came in place of a flat white coffee. I asked about an ice cream but was told that they had only tubs. As the machine was being cleaned. As we were drinking our tea/coffee, the staff were stacking chairs onto tables, the time was 4 pm. I suggest that the management, take a decision to either close earlier in the day to suit the staff or make it clear to customers that it's open, but there's very little on offer an hour before it shuts for the day. Not impressed at all, disappointed not to be able to try the much promoted scones. We had travelled especially to visit this cafe and shop.More
