Only popped in for a pint and a plate of cheesy chips caught my eye. I am fussy about ma chips and these were gorgeous. All the food looked scrummy to be honest but we had made reservations elsewhere for a meal that evening or would have ploughed on in further. Staff very friendly and lovely relaxed atmosphere in oldie... More

I lived in Cerne Abbas until I was 8 n have visited this pub regularly over the yrs n even though there have been change of landlords nothing has changed. The pub has raging fires, uneven slab stones n loads of memorabilia in nooks and crannies. Great food and ambience n either go before or after you've been up the... More

Having failed to get lunch in the first pub we went to in Cerne Abbas, we moved on down the street to the Royal Oak, who were very accommodating and stayed open for the 9 of us to order lunch. The young lady who served us was very friendly and pleasant, and made us feel very welcome. The food was... More

We were having a day out and looking for a pub lunch and drink. The staff in the Royal Oak were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The drinks were good and the meals tasty with generous portions. Lovely Sunday roast and a nice salad. Would definitely go again.

We visited Cerne for a dog walk and wanted it to end at a pub for Sunday lunch. Never been before and cannot believe what a find The Royal Oak is. Walked in to very friendly staff who made you feel extremely welcome. We were advised there may be a slight wait so decided to have a starter, another great... More

Enjoyed a very good lunch on Sunday. Roast beef and Chicken lunches were served hot and very tasty. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and lemon pudding. Good beer and first class service and generous portions made for a really nice meal.

A group of five guys enjoyed a very convivial Monday evening in the Royal Oak. A nice table by the log fire, cerne Abbas Tiger Tom beer and a very well cooked meal was enjoyed by us all. I particularly liked the grilled gurnard with samphire. Others tucked into roast venison and the excellent pie of the day. Special thanks... More

We had an evening meal on a busy Saturday night and the food and service were excellent. Unfortunately, our visit coincided with what appeared to be a local meeting of the Kennel Club with dogs and a trio of very loud customers. Thankfully the excellent young Manageress Amy proved more than capable of handling this and found us some quiet... More

Food was moderate .... spherical burger in a flat bun rather hard to manage....chips in a flower vase and a particularly small wooden boards to eat off made for a difficult experience. A great note of today at the bar giving increasingly load accounts of his fascinating day transporting Nissan Quashqais around.....he got very loud afternoon two pints and we... More

We made an impromptu visit to the Royal Oak for my husband's birthday. As ever, the welcome from the Land Lady Amy was enthusiastic. The Royal Oak is an old pub, with lots of wood, an open fire and a charming ambiance. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Amy always remembers us, even though we are not locals and... More
