Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to the Market spotted this place as it was also dog friendly. Went in and looked at the menu on offer was the two mains for £15 we had the Chicken tikka masala and the steak n ale pie and two drinks the food...arrived in good time and both dishes were plentiful. Excellent value and wonderful service. So much so we went back on Friday for the fish fryday fish chips and a pint for just over a tenner. Would reccomend a visit here to anyone.More

12 people are 7-74, accommodated for a lunch time dinner, really friendly staff, food was excellent. I had a rump steak, cooked to a perfect medium rare, no fat, no gristle, just good quality tasty meat, Family has a great range of food, fish and...chips, scampi and chips, pie and mash, pizzas, burgers, chicken nuggets. Dessert waffles were excellent too. All served in a spotlessly clean pub by some lovely people.More

Despite there website advertising this pub as having a warm, welcome with a family friendly atmosphere we were faced with a rude and angry barmaid berating her youn son (assumed). Her short and pointed response were discourteous and unprofesional. An extremly piss poor pub experience,...a dire stop off not a patch on the Black Swan.More

2 stars and that's been generous the staff were helpful but the food was terrible! Burger arrived, cut it in half was warm and pink, asked for burger to be changed for a cooked hot burger - no shame - they returned the first burger...warmed up within minutes and STILL pink!!! So twice cooked but it was still moo'ing at me 🙄. I actually don't know what's worse though the fact they served a twice cooked burger or the fact it was still undercooked after the second attempt!! Refunded but really....More

A very welcoming host ( Landlady? ) Not a huge menu, but enough to cater for meat eaters and Vegetarians alike. Prices reasonable for food and drink. Dark cider slushie was an interesting find on a hot day too.

For our group of 7, this was the first place we visited. We arrived at lunchtime and had drinks and sandwiches and chips. Although a limited lunch menu, everything we ordered was of a good standard and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Bar staff very...friendly too.More

My wife and I visited along with 6 friends. My Steak and Ale Pie and her Steak were both the best we have had in a long time. The staff were friendly and the prices very good. Will go again when next in town

A last minute place for an evening meal as we turned up mid afternoon. Good covid precautions and a warm welcome awaited us. Food was hot and reasonably priced, would recommend the cider apple crumble!!! Dog friendly

I do not recomend the food. The only good thing I can say was it filled me up. Non of the food was hot. It all looked like it was microwaved, everything from the kids pizza to the Sunday dinner. The mash was incredibly thick....The veg wasn't even the right colour . We found it incredibly hard to cut through the shop bought Yorkshire puddings. My mum found a hair in her dinner all we got was a uncomfortable giggle and bearly apology from the waiting staff. Poor quality all round.More

Thought we would try this pub for an evening meal as staying in the area, well what a waste of time.We went in and sat down only to be told 'we don't serve food after 7'. Considering there were boards outside advertising food and no...mention on their website either of not serving after 7 I think it's very poor. To be honest it looked a bit of a spit and sawdust type of place so I certainly wouldn't recommend.More

Visited the Black Bill in Pocklington to visit family, the service was very good! The food was lovely and they were very accommodating when I wanted to change my order slightly! (I’m not one of those). Big daddy Mac burger was beautiful and didn’t wait...long for food! All happy and very full! Lovely little pub in the centre and very reasonably priced. Worth a visit!More

The Black Bull on the marketplace is a good chain-type pub with lots of tables and a wide menu for food. Wide selection of beers and other drinks, TVs in two areas able cover a couple of sporting events. Great place to gather with friends...or slip in as a couple.More
