Went here with friends (6 of us) on Saturday 14th May, after advised it was good. Sadly, not for me.
At the time of booking my friend was told 18.30 tables were available, but not any later. She wasn't told that you have to be...out in two hours (by 20.30) - which is the first thing, annoyingly, I was told by the waitress on entering. I sort of understand why, but when serving tapas it's a bit silly when you may have to wait between numerous items being served and the size of group being served (perhaps too how much you spend or are willing to). Well there was a 20 minute wait before 1 of mine and 1 of my wife's arrived, then at least another 20 minutes before a couple more bits came for friends. And so continued, wasting your precious time (which you start to worry about). It would have helped too if a staff member knew what he was serving up!
Well the first thing I was served was a pork dish. It was so tough and chewy I sent it back. In its place I ordered a tuna steak. Waited and waited (everyone now finished theirs) - but on arrival it was so over stewed in its sauce, it too was sent back. The only thing I ate in the end was the octopus (which, to be fair, was properly cooked and delicious).
Though they took the pork and tuna off the bill, there was no true apology. They didn't seem to take on board it ruins the whole evening for all and delays the time even more.
No time for coffees etc (after spending around £160), went to a pub.
Really disappointing and I won't be going back.More
We were staying at the nearby Premier Inn, so booked for Monday evening. Mainly tapas/small bites which were tasty, good selection of cocktails, and attentive service, would go back if in the area again.
The waiting staff & kitchen seemed to be incredibly young & disinterested. Although I can’t fault the food, the way we were given chips 30 mins before anything else seemed strange. We wanted to have a cocktail or two but felt the menu/choice was incredibly...intimidating & after a first try of a truly DISGUSTING “bubble bath” cocktail, we thought it best to stick to wine. Overall the interior is lovely, food isn’t really tapas but perfectly fine for a “pub grub” vibe, if a little overpriced. The staff are inexperienced & vacant. Won’t be returningMore
So disappointed last night. We have been here & have to say the pizzas are great BUT when you preorder AND staff told gluten free was requested (my hub is Ceoliac). Young lady was great & got him the GF menu. Choices made. We both...ordered the same pizza but obvs one GF. Young man brought one over & said it was the GF one. Hub
tucked in whilst I waited only to be told 5/6 mins later it’s not the GF one. Eeeeeek! He’d already eaten a slice. The young man apologized with a smile & that was it. He obvs doesn’t understand the consequences of a ceoliac eating gluten! Manager requested who was a delight & understood the consequences. I suggested the member of staff needing retraining regarding the GF. His attitude was not sincere. All turned out ok in the end & the GF pizza was great BUT if he had eaten much more there could’ve been a REAL problem. How could a mistake like that happen in such an aware restaurant?
However the end of the story is that despite this incident we will go back as it’s such a nice place!
Hub wasn’t too well during the night but who knows what the long term affect is?More
Upon arrival we were greeted enthusiastically and shown to our table for 8 adults and 1 baby. The drinks were ordered and unfortunately some items were no longer stocked as they were changing their menu but had not printed a new one. There is a...vast choice of drinks so it would be beneficial to tell customers this prior to them making their order.
Our food order was taken and food was brought out which was delicious and hot. The service here was not great, everything was just given to one person at the table for them to pass to the appropriate person, all with no smile or communication from the waitress. All 8 adults really enjoyed the taste and quality of the food. The waiter, who seemed to be trying to organise everything and instructing the others, checked in to see if our food was enjoyable which was good.
The menu suggests ordering a few plates and then ordering more if wanted. This unfortunately we were not able to do, along with ordering more drinks, as no one then visited the table to take any further orders. We then decided to leave and go to a nearby pub even though we had the table for another hour of our 2 hour slot. Unfortunately, we would have stayed and bought more drinks and food if the service was there to do so.
Also, there was no offer of a highchair for baby which made eating a meal difficult for parents. The pushchair was positioned at the end of the table, side on, next to the toilets and the kitchen which meant footfall was constant and the floor was extremely bouncy in that area so every time someone walked past it jolted the pushchair. Baby did not find the experience enjoyable at all!
This may also be because of where our table was located but it was extremely noisy in the restaurant and it was very difficult to hear conversation between members of our party.
I highly recommend the patatas bravas and lamb koftas, both amazing dishes!
We may return as the food was so good but not with great expectations of service and maybe for a lunch time only.More
We booked a table for lunch for a small family gathering following a family funeral.
We were allocated a table away from other diners, the tables closest to us were kept free, the speakers were turned down low above us and we had a dedicated...waiter, Jack. We asked for none if these things, this was all off their own bat, showing such care and consideration. For that the whole team are owed a huge 'Thank you'.
Jack was attentive without being imposing, thank you Jack.
The food was delicious, hot, tasty and well presented. We were also given a couple of very yummy complimentary cocktails to try as the staff were having a training session. Thank you for those too!
We will all definitely return and would recommend Four London Road, for the service, food - and their cocktails.
Well done 'Team Four London Road'!More
Recommended by a friend and so glad we all went! Good buzz about the place, cocktails a bit on the pricey side but delicious, and the tapas style plates were lovely. Eddie served us and was utterly brilliant, nothing too much for him despite being...a busy night.More
