We stayed here for 3 nights recently , and ate in their restaurant each evening. Absolutely bowled over by the whole experience. The food and service is exceptional , the Lincolnshire cheese soufflé, Scallops and black pudding, Cod with peas and chargrilled lettuce, and the chicken supreme were some of the memorable dishes. Excellent breakfast, too. Our room was very comfortable with nice touches, such as fresh milk in a little fridge, and a wide selection of teas. We enjoyed exploring the area - there’s such alot to see and do within a short drive. Thank you to Lorraine and your team.

Great place to visit and quality food Service team all need more training.. also a uniform or appropriate clothing to suit the restaurant. Perhaps to show the customer that they are being served would help. Not pouring wine or offering water for the table seems to lessen the value on the prices charged. Throw it on the table Ieave you to it then .. wine not shown to the table. Just left to be poured.. no presentation at all . Food was delicious and adequate with reasonable portions, though dessert somewhat expensive Just the finesse of a quality “waited on” service is missing in my opinion The check “is everything ok ?” Was way too late in the meal .. too late by then anyway Owner is very friendly and welcoming and makes an effort to make sure of a welcoming smile. Restaurant is not a cheap place and after we hat must be 20-30 years toilets need an clean and an update

I've not been here before even though its quite close to me. Booking was easy on-line and we were sent useful reminders leading up to the evening. We found parking nearby a little challenging but that's probably because of its popularity. The food was excellent and whilst the menu was not extensive the meals offered were well though out, high quality, well presented and intricately blended for textures and flavours. Our table was i little strange (one end of an oval) but that didn't detract from a brilliant evening. We'll definitely be going back

I've been to this restaurant many times over many years and always found it delivers very very high quality food and service and therefore, to have an expensive, mediocre experience on this occasion was more than disappointing. The food was no better than average and it was very highly questionable as to whether the rib-eye steak I ordered was even a rib-eye. There was no "eye", no rib eye shape and just looked like a small round pice of meat of no particular origin. When I queried it, the comment I got was that was how the butcher supplied it. An option to have something else from the menu was given and accepted, but that's hardly the point. The chateaubriand chosen by other members of our party proved to be quite tough and that cut of meat from the tenderloin should be one of the most tender cuts of meat. Tender, it wasn't. The point of this review is not to criticize every element of the meal but to point out that the standards that evening fell far far below expectations. The wine was simply opened and put of the table with no attempt to serve. There was no restaurant manager in evidence, and whilst the waitresses were unquestionable very good, polite and sought to please, the absence of Lorraine with her hostess skills was quite marked. It's true to say that just one bad experience at a restaurant can put you off returning and sadly, that has been the case for us. Reputations are very hard come by and so easy to compromise. You just can't ever "take your eye off the ball" in hospitality. Stephen C

Thank you for your review Stephen and I'm sorry that you did not enjoy this visit as much as you did on previous occassions. I can assure you that the cut of meat you were served was indeed a rib eye (as our very experienced butcher and chef can attest). It's a pity you sent it back without trying it as the other customers who ordered rib eye that evening were more than satisfied.

It had been quite a while since our last meal at the Brownlow Arms - our loss! The atmosphere on the Saturday evening was nicely lively but there was still space to sit in the bar for pre-dinner drinks. There were 4/5 options for each course, with a nice variety of dishes in each. The salmon and soufflé starters were both excellent, as were the well-cooked turkey and blade of beef dishes. Shared Christmas and sticky toffee puddings rounded off a lovely meal. Good selection of beers, drinks and wines. You will pay in excess of £100 per couple for 3 courses/wine but for the quality and cooking of the food, it is money well spent. Set in a beautiful position

We were somewhat disappointed with our meal. We expected great things for the prices. It also looks very formal, but the wine we chose was bought to the table opened and literally just plonked down. I was expecting to be shown the wine first and for it to be opened at the table and poured for us. The soufflé starter was lovely but the mains seriously let the whole meal down. The risotto for £23.00 is not worth the money it was chalky and no finesse with the presentation, a nice drizzle of olive oil wouldnt have gone amis and the ice cold bitter courgette not required nor on the description! The rib eye was good and cooked well, the pork was very tasty but the sauce was gloopy and thick. The whole sole was not whole only half. There were no prawns for the buerre blanc sauce and it was split. We didn't stay for dessert. We won't be returning. There are better places to eat that offer better meals for your money.

Visited for a second time to celebrate our anniversary and everything was as we had expected. First class food and service. We decided to stay overnight this time and the room was warm, comfortable and tastefully decorated. I don’t think we have stayed anywhere that provides as many choices of tea / coffee in the room and the provision of fresh milk in a small fridge was much appreciated.Dinner and drinks service was quiet and efficient, food choices are sufficient to cover most peoples’ requirements and was superb in taste / presentation. When staying overnight you can look forward to a breakfast of equal quality to the dinner service, again served with a friendly smile, what’s not to like, I think we will have to visit at a similar time each year from now.

This restaurant deserves every award. It has got to stop it was an absolutely gastronomic experience the food which delivered on taste of which there were many different flavour experiences arrived, lovely and hot, fresh ingredients and extremely well cooked and served with creativity. The starter double baked cheese soufflé was to die for. I could’ve licked the plate plane. I had the beef Guinness and mushroom pie which doesn’t sound much, but my goodness it was melting the mouth can’t stop eating it, the mash was smooth, good portion and with extra gravy and seasonal vegetables The attentive service from the staff was noticed. Each waiter waitress was helpful friendly well groomed without being intrusive. Lorraine came and spoke to the patrons at the tables which gave it a really nice personal touch. She and her staff do wonderfully. This will be our special occasion restaurant. It’s not cheap, but you pay for what you get it’s fantastic!

We chose to stay at The Brownlow Arms at Hough-on-the-Hill because it was conveniently located for the places we planned to visit during our short break in Lincolnshire. We were only staying for one night, but wished it could have been longer! On arrival we were greeted by David, who could not have been more friendly and helpful. He showed us to our accommodation in Room 5, which is spacious and separate from the main building, and we were delighted by the beautiful decor and obvious care and thought that has gone into equipping the room with everything one might need. The bed was large and very comfortable with good quality bedlinen, the bathroom tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, towelling robes and complimentary toiletries were provided and there was a large box of various types of tea, coffee and biscuits. We felt instantly at home. Later, our meal in the restaurant was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly, making us feel well looked after. After an excellent night's sleep (the heavy curtains meant the room was dark and the bed was extremely comfortable) we enjoyed a very good breakfast of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon in the restaurant, where again, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food excellent and plentiful. We were pleased to meet the owners, Lorraine and Paul, who took the time to chat to us before we left and made us feel very welcome. All in all, a very pleasant stay in a beautiful location and we will not hesitate to stay again in the future and to recommend it to others.

A memorable Friday evening out with friends at The Brownlow Arms, situated in Hough on the Hill. The welcome from the owners was warm and we had a drink whilst reading through the menu. The dining room was warm, spacious and well laid out. For starters we had the coronation chicken scotch egg and the Chinese style crispy chilli beef salad. Mains courses were pan-fried monkfish with fondant potato and the canon of lamb. All the food delivered was absolutely full of flavour and well presented. For desert there was lemon and stem ginger cheesecake and dark chocolate marquise. All of us had a liqueur coffee. Service throughout the evening was fantastic and somewhere I would highly recommend. Next we go will be in the colder months so that we get the full effect of the open fire in the restaurant.

My husband had last visited over 10 years prior and I had always heard good things from him and his father but it was even better in the flesh. The Lincolnshire Poacher soufflé is utterly sublime. I was going to play it safe with a pie, and while I was disappointed that they had sold out, it encouraged me to go for something else, the Korean pork, and I’m so pleased I did because it was so delicious. The trip puddings were also excellent as was the cheese board my other half had. Lincolnshire is often described as the Nation’s Larder and the Brownlow is making full use of it. Couple this with sumptuous surroundings and an army of pleasant attentive staff and you have a winnng combination that the rest of the hospitality industry would do well to emulate. Does it cost a little more than some places? It does. Is it worth every single penny for an outstanding dining experience you want to share with friends and family? Absolutely!

We love it here and have been coming for many years. You always get a lovely warm welcome from Lorraine, the owner and all of her staff treat you as friends. It's a beautiful restaurant in a lovely village, great food but a relaxed atmosphere. Tonight I had the asparagus with crispy poached egg, bacon and hollandaise, delicious. Then the cod done in risotto, tasty. My husband had the Baked alaske banoffee pie for dessert, said it was one of the best he had ever had. Lovely bar for after dinner drinks or if we ever get a British summer there's a lovely garden to sit in. Give this place a visit, you will not be disappointed.

OK so I didn’t sample the evening meal because attending a wedding along at Stubton. But you can tell a lot about a place by the quality of their scrambled eggs, the friendly staff, the fresh flowers in abundance, luxurious furniture and decor, and above all the private mini fridges which keeps your half pint of milk fresh overnight for your morning cuppa. Ideal bolt hole off the southbound A1.

We booked for a Friday overnight stay before Christmas at the Brownlow and combined it with a delicious dinner in the delightful restaurant. Large, comfortable upholstered chairs and a spacious table with plenty of space between guests meant a relaxed ambience was guaranteed. Impeccable service in the restaurant with a fine dining menu worthy of its two rosette rating. Our bedroom had a sitting area and large comfortable bed, with immaculate bathroom, and all in first-class order. The breakfast was varied and delicious too, with local produce and generous portions also served in the main restaurant. We liked it so much that we booked again for Sunday lunch with our family two days later and enjoyed another special experience. Thank you. A gem. Highly recommended.
