We cannot visit Hemsby without getting a bite to eat at the Lacon Arms. We absolutely fell in love with this place a few years ago. It’s is a beautiful pub/restaurant, I love the warm welcoming decor, it’s extremely clean and the staff are absolutely amazing! My partner and I came to Norfolk for a weekend break for Valentine’s Day, we saw The Lacon Arms Valentines menu on Facebook and we just had to try it! For £18 per person, we had an absolute feast and it was the most romantic atmosphere we’d ever experienced. We realised that it’s out of season so it was quiet in the pub, but the staff made the experience so much more wonderful and made it really personal for us. The pink strawberry baileys was very welcoming on arrival, we had sirloin steaks, profiterole and chocolate dipped strawberry’s and tea for afters. It was all so delicious and very filling. But...the one thing I highly recommend is the shared nachos! One of the most delicious meals I have EVER eaten! It’s so cheesy and filling. My mum begged me to bring some home because they were so delicious but I doubt they would have made it :) The pub is in a fantastic location, literally a few meters from the beach, so during the summer there are amazing views, it is pet friendly too - despite a few dogs visiting, the pub is impeccably clean! There is a brilliant play area for kids in the garden too, a pirate ship climbing frame and slide. My children had a great time playing out there. Also, it’s worth mentioning that when you spend £5 or more in the Lacon Arms, the parking is absolutely free! I can not recommend The Lacon Arms enough, it is simply amazing and we will be back during the holidays for dinner again :) Thankyou to all the staff for a wonderful pub/restaurant!

Excellent staff, service and atmosphere. The food was a little expensive, however the food on the takeaway menu (which you can eat in the beer garden) was reasonably priced. The waitress named Jodie was very helpful in sorting out menus and food for us as there were 19 of us.

We stayed in the area during the first week of September and visited the Lacon arms multiple times for meals and on other occasions just drinks. Their Covid procedures are spot on with a one way system in place inside and the ability to order directly from your table if you wished. The staff were all fantastic and always went above and beyond. Between the 8 of us we sampled most of the menu and all of the food was superb, well priced and the bar had a great selection of drinks. We will always return when in the area.

My husband & I went in for lunch & were given & menu, firstly we saw that a bird had pooped on the outside window of the conservatory where we were sitting & nobody had cleaned it off-lovely view, that was an omen. I am a veggie & ordered the vegan chilli, I’m convinced that they served the meat version to me & it didn’t come with the mango chutney. My husband ordered the chicken burger & although it did look lovely he said it tasted appalling, really cheap chicken with no taste. We were not given serviettes & had to ask for some. We could overhear the couple in front of us complaining that they had ordered the gammon & it come with tinned mushrooms. When you are paying around £11 for a meal you expect good quality products but sadly it is obvious the lacon arms do not provide. Very disappointing!

I'm not sure what others have been served but we ordered 3 bacon and cheese burgers and a full rack of ribs. First of all the thick shake for my son took 30 minutes to make and i had to ask where it was. It took over an hour and a half for the food to be served. We were told an hour max. We were charged £3 extra for the cheese in the cheese burgers (as were the couple next to us). The burgers came out like dried chunks of card and were sent back. The ribs were served with no coleslaw, no butter for the cob and no salt or pepper on the table. The 2nd round of burgers were edible up to the point my daughter asked if it was meant to be pink in the middle. That went back again and we got a refund for 1 burger. All in all 2 hours of our lives we'll never get back. We should have walked out after the 1st burgers were sent back. Finally after fighting with the ribs to get any meat off them we gave up and left. Better off getting a burger from the Oais. Very disappointed.

Dear Tony & J I am absolutely 100% sorry for your evening with us last night. We failed to deliver on all counts, and I can only apologise. We were under far too much stress from too many people trying to take advantage of the Governments "Eat out to Help out" scheme, and it completely floored us. My team worked their socks off to try and deliver. We stopped taking orders and were turning people away, but sadly we already had too may orders placed, that we had not kitchen capacity to turn around quickly enough. I myself went to the kitchen to try to help and missed you leaving. If you would kindly get in touch I will compensate you. You have been a loyal customer for some time, and I'm sorry we did not live up to previous high standards. It seems a shame that you would choose this experience to place here on Tripadvisor, and not any of the other lovely times that you have visited us. Lorna

We visit great yarmouth yearly and this is the 1st time visiting this pub and it will also be the last. The venue itself was cosy and welcoming and The bar staff/ waitresses were very friendly and accomodating. The food was generously portioned, but unfortunately was well overpriced for quality. Meal quality seems very slap dash at best and there are better quality take away outlets in the vicinity of the beaches and local holiday parks.

Walking the northeaster section of the Norfolk Coastal Path a week before the Covid -19 shutdown we were in need of a lunch venue. The Lacon Arms provided both food and drink. There's a wide selection of ales and lagers on draught and a wide selection of food. We chose the jacket potato with a chilli con carne filling. It was disappointing; the potato was very old and dry and the filling was sparse. The landlady, on the other hand was determined to be the perfect hostess, very friendly and chatty. This is an odd pub; clearly the central attraction at the height of the holiday season but out of season it struggles, together with the rest of the town. Food is only served on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and we were lucky to be on an open day. It was empty and so lacked atmosphere and the glitzy showcases and advertisements as a wedding venue seemed out of place. However, it was the only hostelry open in the vicinity so I mustn't be too critical.

After reading such good reviews we we decided to eat here thursday half term we.... 5 of us 2 adults 3 children we haddnt booked but it wasnt too busy got told there would be a thirty minute wait for food which after a day on the beach is fine but nothing in the order when it did finally come (over an hour) and not even an apology half of the meals were cold and chips were burnt. Cheap nasty pub food at premium prices compared to the rest of the area. When we complained the staff were complacent and just offered us a free dessert..... Sad really as great play area out the back feels like they don't care about repeat business.

We booked a table on Tuesday to eat on Wednesday at 7, we arrived a couple of minutes early and were shown to our table. We all chose our meals within 25 mins so I went to the bar to place our order. I was told at the bar all the food had gone! I explained we pre-booked the day before, after 10 minutes of the staff running around we were told we could order our food but it would be 1 and a half hours before it would be ready. If you book a table at 7 you don’t expect to be eating at 9! Surely people that book should take priority over people that have just walked in to order food, poor planning, should have turned people away a lot earlier. We weren’t the only groups to get up and leave.

Dear Mr Davies My sincerest apologies for your visit with us - it was a severe learning curve for us that evening after being hit by far too many people trying to order online (a new challenge imposed by Covid), and we were simply overwhelmed with so many people trying to order, and with us trying to help too many. This was due to the Gov initiative of offering 50% off all meals and soft drinks, and it seemed the whole world had descended on us. I had to be completely honest with you, and say it was a long wait, I was severely embarrassed to tell you this, as you had indeed booked, but we got it wrong. We have learnt from that experience and i am happy to say that we only take reservations and no walk ins or online orders on those Monday to Wednesday nights now, and we are back to our very high standards of both service and meals. Unfortunately I cannot undo your poor experience with us that evening, I can only apologise once again, and hope that if you are ever in the area again, you would give us another try - and I will personally attend to you and your family. ( I did leave a text message to the number that you left with your booking to apologise the very same evening, I wonder did you receive this?)

We Visited here as a family of three with an 11 year old, the pub was recommended by a local, food was really good value for money and tasted amazing. The owner approached us and was friendly and chatty and in two days we ended up going here twice. The Sunday carvery had loads to choose from and tasted amazing !! Highly recommended venue, with a really homely atmosphere !!

This place was busy, we can see why. Middle of the range for a meal and drinks. It was clean and tidy and well kept. The staff were friendly and smiley. The food came out fresh. Those that had a carvery also stated it was hot and the meats were well stocked as we're the veggies, well done to all at the lacon arms. Best to book to avoid disappointment. Fantastic team effort all round.

We booked for Sunday lunch. The staff were extremely friendly throughout, but the food was, to be honest, terrible. What was going on on the kitchen is anyone’s guess. Raw sausages, rancid beef, undercooked roast potatoes, old slimy grated carrots to name but a few issues. No discount was offered on the food (even for the replacement food items that were not brought out to us until we were leaving) but we were offered free desserts on a separate occasion. As there were serious concerns regarding the quality of the food being served we didn’t take them up on that offer. I commend the front of house staff for dealing with all the complaints so graciously but I would not recommend the food.

After just getting back from a wonderful week in hemsby even in these tough times the highlight of my visit once again was my visit to the lacon arms, in the ten years i have been frequenting the lacon it has always been the most freindliest and the most delightful place to spend a summers/winters day, evening, Lorna and her team are always so helpful/ polite/ curtious/ and so very hard working making sure that everybodys visit is one to remember. even if you want a weeks snack in a lunchtime or a full roast on a sunday the lacon covers every base, the food and the service are second to none, the whole atmosphere is so relaxed, so cheerful, so quaint, in all the years that i have been using the lacon there has never been a single visit in which i could fault the food or the service, a sincere well done to all. see you next year. Alan Cranwell.

People writing good reviews about this pub must be hallucinating. What a terrible, shabby place. Dirty, everything was so dirty. It is the only pub in the area, so I am not surprised it was full. One waiter spilled my beer, the other one, when placing food on our table, tipped my daughter's J2O so there was nothing left in it. Not even apologised or offered a new one. On Saturday pizza was on plates, on Sunday in cardboard boxes. I have ordered a lasagna with salad. Gosh the look of the salad... Just some ripped pieces of whatever they had in the kitchen, filling most of the plate and than just a small bit of what they call lasagna. I have been to so many pubs, good and bad. But you can't even describe this place as bad. It's ridiculously bad. As I said it's the only pub in the terrible Hemsby area, so you actually have no choice. Either you gonna eat there or you stick to a £3.50 burger from even more shabby place. Disaster!

we have been coming to the lacon Arms for years. Never been disappointed in the service, the food and the atmosphere. Today was sooooo busy with it being peak season, eat out to help out and a beautiful day, but the staff couldn't have been working any harder. Covid measures are in place and the food is beautiful. There may have been a wait for food but this was understandanble due to the sheer amount of people there and they are honest about the wait time. Lorna and the team never fail to give 100% and this was no different today. It would be easy as the only pub serving food in hemsby to do an average job, but they go above and beyond to make sure the best service is provided. They are a truly dedicated team and I dont understand why anyone, in these unprecedented times, would nitpick at Lorna, Sian, Harry and the team. They are always striving to do the best and have never failed to do this. Keep up the amazing work, can't wait to come back tomorrow - amazing service and food, discount or no discount.
