We had a lovely lunch, beautifully cooked and piping hot, just excellent. However, what a shame that the welcome as we walked in was so poor. It was just “ the menus are at the bar, you order food and drinks at the bar”. What about a bright hello, asking if we would like to see a menu etc. The young man who brought our food and coffee was great, maybe he should be welcoming people on their arrival, certainly the lady we dealt with us was not up to it. Her talents obviously lay elsewhere. Also it was pretty cold, indeed the people sitting across from us kept their coats on whilst eating their food.

Hi Cherrill and thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your lunch. We do provide pub food in a pub environment and at lunchtimes, the menus are at the bar and you do order your food and drink at the bar. Generally, knowing the member of staff who served you, she is very cheery. It may have been that she was in between 'opening up' tasks or distracted doing something else and she apologises if you did not get the response you were looking for. It is a large and old building and although we do obviously heat the place, earlier in the day it can take a little longer in January to warm through although, to be fair, it is never 'cold' I have seen people with their coats on even in the Summer. I walk around Summer or Winter in a polo shirt and don't really have too much of a problem but each to their own I guess. Hope to see you again, maybe when the weather is a little warmer and drier.

Made a spontaneous visit to The White Horse on a mid-week lunchtime in early December. It was a quiet time and we received a very warm welcome which was followed up by excellent, friendly but non-intrusive service, which made us feel valued as customers. The food we ordered was freshly prepared, tasty and generously portioned. It was very reasonably priced and, as you would expect from a traditional country inn, there was a good variety of drinks on offer. Christmas decorations were up and we felt cosy, relaxed and well looked after. We hadn't been there since before lockdown but we will not be so long in returning next time and are very happy to recommend this hostelry to anybody as well worth a visit.

Having moved to the village recently we were looking forward to trying the well renowned Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint. Beef was excellent and plentiful and there was a good selection of well cooked vegetables. Starters were also delicious. Look forward to coming back soon as the service was also great. Only suggestion would maybe to have 2 sizes of kids meals as the little ones (age 4) were over phased by their portions.

We made a lunchtime return visit to this traditional Somerset inn and received our usual warm welcome. We are not locals and therefore greatly appreciate the friendly greeting that we unfailingly receive. The White Horse has a sunny garden with plenty of space for outdoor dining but on this occasion we ate inside in the confortable lounge bar with table service. As always, the food was excellent and, together with the drinks, attractively priced. It was freshly prepared, hot, tasty and well presented. I particularly enjoyed my Croque Forestiere, served with fries, a golden fired egg and a generous salad garnish. The Elderflower and Passion Fruit cheesecake that followed it was rich and satisfying, a delicious highlight! The bill for four three course lunches, including drinks, came to a very reasonable £155 - excellent value for money in these financially difficult times. We will certainly be returning in the near future and I would not hesitate to recommend this excellent hostelry to anybody who is wondering whether to give it a try.

Family of 11, mixed ages, from Grandparents to Grandchildren enjoyed a first rate 3 course meal. The staff were very friendly, courteous and attentive. The food was extremely well cooked and presented. The family, to a person, were very complimentary about this great experience

Had lunch with the family there today and couldn't fault it. The roast beefs were excellent; generous portions of tender roast beef with gravy on the side, dishes of perfectly cooked vegetables, including a cauliflower cheese, great roasties and a large yorkshire. We followed with a selection of unique and equally delicious desserts. Table service was courteous and attentive. All in all, a perfect way to celebrate my brother's birthday in good company with a proper Sunday roast. Would strongly recommend.

The whole place was very cold, food not bad, but expensive for pub grub, the whole place was soleless. The only restaurant I have ever had to keep my coat on to eat and still very cold. Food was bearly acceptable but took 30+ minutes to arrive, we were on the brink of leaving and the food arrived

We needed dinner on the evening of arriving at a nearby rented barn .I had the smoked salmon starter .Others went for prawn cocktail I had a rib eye steak .Others went for duck.whitebait and a vegetarian option. We took a Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz from the wine list We agreed that our meals were outstanding although I would quarrel slightly with the chefs interpretation of rare as applied to the ribeye The staff were charming and the prices entirely reasonable. My only regret was that I had to forego the fish dish.Apologies to the new starter waiter who we tested abit

We booked in for a Friday night meal as staying over in Mark for the weekend with my mum and 2 kids (16 and 13). Our meal was super quality, well cooked, generous portions and all served up with a smile. Flamin chicken starter definitely worth a mention! The whole experience was so positive we returned again the following day. My daughter declared the dessert menu options as simply the best she had ever seen with a great choice of sundaes and a cheesecake of the day! Thanks all for adding to a lovely weekend away - exceptional pub food.

Very impressed with this quiet village pub. Staff were happy, chatty and attentive, food was delicious. I had the chicken and mushroom pie with mash and peas and eat the whole thing, nearly licking the plate at the end. My other-half had the curry from the specials and said it was very tasty with great depths of flavour although a little on the hot side but nothing a little natural yogurt didn’t help with. Definitely suggest requesting yogurt in the side just in case. My son had the chicken goujons, fries and beans and eat every mouthful followed by very delicious proper vanilla icecream. I highly recommend eating here and if we weren’t just visiting for our staycation, I can definitely say this would be a reoccurring trip.

OMG what a lovely pub, great food, lovely people and a great venue. We have been meaning to drop in for a meal for a long time, what have we been missing…(A lot) there is someone in the kitchen who can truly cook. Lovely food delivered with a great smile and always someone returns to make sure it was all ok, ( such a trait that is missing these days)… A very nice selection of beers and spirits……the gin selection is just stunning for a country pub. Try the mushroom Croquet, it’s truly filling and so well presented. If your looking for a country pub with a great cook, you won’t be disappointed…..Open from Wed to Sun, you need to book for a Sunday lunch….so gooood…… don’t drive pass go in, be surprised and amazed……

We visited again yesterday and really enjoyed our visit. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was very relaxed. One thing which really made it was the way the staff used our names when bringing out our orders, rather than saying what the food was. I wish more places did this as it makes it so much easier. Thank you again - we hope to see you for Christmas 2023!

We popped in to see if we could get a table for two. Not holding out much hope as the other pub in the village had been pretty blunt about “We should have booked” After the bar staff asking the chef, could we do a table for two, nice that they all communicate, we took a table and ordered. I had the Hawaiian Burger, and the wife a Prawn Cocktail and salad as her main. Honestly, this was the best burger i have had all Holiday. Great flavour. Wife enjoyed hers too. Desserts finished us off with a couple of Eatom Messes. Had a nice chat about beagles and dogs in general and made our way back to our Shepherds Hut Thank you all

Booked here on recommendation of hosts at Cripps Farm. Lovely helpful waitress showed us to our reserved table. We had steak which was cooked to perfection and ham egg and chips. Food was lovely only issue the square of blue tack found amongst my chips. Waitress was terribly apologetic as was the waiter that put our food down. After some chat they came to the conclusion it fell while taking a cloth down to hold the hot plate. Was offered free desserts nice touch but when we went to settle the bill (owner??) stated she had taken one drink off the bill, didn’t seem overly apologetic either unlike the young lady who waitressed who was clearly mortified. Won’t let it overshadow the delicious meal however note to yourself don’t stick up towels with blu tack as the next customer may not be as gracious as we were!

Highly recommended in every way. From initial booking of a large table (11) through to service on the day, great menu and drinks options (including AF) our visit was a very happy one. They even kindly gave us some butter (as the supermarket delivery missed it off) and some eye drops - now that’s going above and beyond! Thank you White Horse team.
